Current job - I interviewed for another position with the company (through a recruiter). Two months later called back because the CEO's admin remembered me and asked my current executive to interview me.
Previous position - Monster. I have also been told the number of resumes received for positions that I have interviewed for have been between 300 and 1000.

Current job: recruitment agency (though it took more than 6 months and a lot of interviews to find it).
Previous job: a different recruitment agency - I've tried newspapers and so on, but I never seem to get any further than an interview that way.

Current Job: Placed CV on Monster, got this job offer the next week :o)
Previous Job: Temped, 4 week assignment turned into 1 year.. boring! I also became a number/commission to this recruitment agency so they would never call me back, or help me look for anything better out there.
What was annoying was I'd applied endlessly for jobs on various recruitment websites for the last 18 months and was always getting rejects or not hearing anything. Then one afternoon after being fed-up with my situation and the way I was being treated at the last job I placed my CV on the web and put up a profile.

Current Position: Was called by a former colleague who heard about the position while working with my current boss and thought I'd be a good fit. I called current boss, interviewed, and eventually got the job.
Previous Position (with same organization): Well.....and this is the reason for the blush icon.....it was nepotism to be honest. My father in law knew of an open position (and he was retiring in 6 months). But I applied and interviewed under my maiden name. He's always insisted that all he did was let me know of the position, but I sometimes wonder.
Position before that: I was working for a temp agency and was sent to a warehouse to clean up a month's work of filing. The manager was impressed with my "speed and professionalism" and called the agency six weeks later to ask if I was available for permananet employement.
Early on, I signed on with an employment agency, but didn't have any luck. Want-ads (pre-internet!) and sending out mass resume mailings never got me anywhere either. Seems in my world, it's not what you know, but who you know.

And yet Did I detest the "it's not what you know, but who you know" scenario because others like me, miss out on opportunities that usually never get advertised and it means my work history and qualifications mean nothing.
I believe personal merit counts for a lot. I know situations were individuals have been suggested for roles and when interviewed, the hiring panel or MD of the company has asked afterwards why on earth such numpties were considered for the role in the first place.

1st full time role straight after college for 2½ years at a charity. Found job through a recruitment ad in a London newspaper.
2nd full time post through an open-evening when the employer was doing a major recruitment drive (this was in the late 1980's). I worked for c.16 years with the global professional services firm and whilst I was there I had various roles in different departments. I was recommended for one post by a previous job holder, others I found through the internal recruitment process.
Current role is part-time and I found the role through an advert in my local newspaper. It took me about 8 months to find a role that suited my job expectations and circumstances and after I had taken the decision to work locally rather than in London. PS I've been here nearly 7 years and have recently been handed more responsibilities. I have therefore increased my daily hours per week to cope with the extra workload.

I responded to an ad for a temporary position at the company.
I was hired two days later by the temporary agency and worked for four months before I was made permanent here. I've changed positions a few times, and have been here eight years now.

This job I applied after I found the advert in the local paper, new country and all I needed to start somewhere, but it is admin based, not very busy and coming from the City of London where I had been headhunted for my role - a big come down from what I was doing.
I am in a blue funk with this role, and while I will stay here until I find something better, I find it hard to stay motivated when I have literally nothing to do each day.
I could cry at times, as I can feel my hard earned and worked for PA skills melting away from me.
