Title: Narked about office gossip of so-called colleague!
Post by: JessW on September 14, 2011, 03:03:00 pm
 >:( OK, so I know I should not get so upset about this sort of thing (my usual is to completely ignore it), however I cannot ignore this.

Apparently, one of my colleagues (who also co-ordinates secretarial support for the fee earners and even sat in on my annual review) has been reporting it around the office that I have been declared bankrupt!.

On a scale of 1 being low and 10 being high, I am now at level 100!

So, do I drop a brick, a hint or just push her down the lift shaft?

Jess (so not bankrupt, just planning and executing plan to emigrate and leave her sort of idiot to their own devices!)

Ooh that's awful and such a personal issue to be discussing with others in work.

Maybe you should grab take her to one side and ask her what she's heard...rather than accuse her.  That would make her think twice about gossiping.

Low road: make up something as equally snarky about her/him
Middle road:  mention to one of the gossip mongers' friends that you heard about your impending b/r and sorry it's just not true, but thank them for caring so much about your personal financial situation.
High road: move on do you really care what any of them think?

Personally I would confront her and just say it straight out - I have heard feedback that you have been telling people I am filing for bankruptcy. Is this true?

If she says no, she hasn't said it, I would then say, well let's go discuss this with the individual who said it and get it all straightened out.

If she says yes, she did say it, I would say, this is simply not true, but more importantly, if it were true, I would not appreciate you discussing my personal finances with my coworkers. Can you please explain to me why you would be spreading such false statements?

But then, I'm pretty direct in such situations.

Take the high road.
