Expertise / Certifications needed for success

My name is Michelle and I am a college student, my major is Medical Administrative Assistant.  I am working on a paper and have a few questions I was hoping someone would be able to help me with.  My paper is on my career and one of the questions is What is the content knowledge expertise required for success in my field?  Is there any lifelong certifications that will help me for future personal and career success? 

Any information would be greatly apprechiated.

Hey Michelle

I would have to say the sciences would not go amiss, especially biology and maths, plus a very good grounding in language (grammar spelling etc) .

Beyond that, I don't think it is possible to get certified for common sense, logic and organisation skills.  These would probably get you through most contextual content, leaving just the CPD element of keeping up with modern technology.

Anyone I know who went into this field, completed a Diploma or equivalent for Medical Secretaries, in the same way I completed an LCCI Diploma for Bi-Lingual Secretaries.

I have to say I wish common sense, logic and organisation skills were exams you could take because I come across so many in the Admin/PA field who have little or none of the above.

Science, Maths and English are a must in considering your entry point (eg. Degree or Diploma level) but of course you have to consider your ultimate objective and where you see yourself going.  There may very well be further certifications that you could undertake once you are on that ladder to success but keeping up with modern technology is also vital.
