Have you moved over to an ereader such as Kindle or and ipad (or an of the other brands), or are you sticking to paper?  Do you think different type books are better for ereaders and others still good in paper form?  If you do use an ereader, how do you like it?

I've just bought a Kindle.

Would say that I am really liking it.  However, some of the e-book layouts are not very good, and they haven't been well proofed so these things will always annoy me.

I like taking it to our boat where it doesn't curl up at the edges in the damp air, like my books do!  This is the main reason I bought it.

Battery life is great - am getting more than they say (by keeping wifi/3G off)

I think I will stick with my Sony E-Reader that I have had for the last 2 years (but keep the paperbacks as I still enjoy reading those!)

Eventually I know I will get an ereader, but I haven't yet. I really do like a good book in my hands. But I certainly see the many pros of ereaders. :)

iPad - love love love it!  Still read paper backs from the used book store, but for traveling it's great.  Plus it's more than a reader, notes, email, internet, movies, games.  I haven't uploaded a word program yet, but it's coming soon. PS lots of books are free, just finished re-reading Jane Austen.

Hubby gave me a tablet ...love it.

My mum loves her new Kindle and is already using it.

Quick update...I still love this Toshiba tablet.  I downloaded the kindle app and have downloaded a few books (Some free from Amazon).  I highly recommend:-)

I love, love, love my Kindle.  I have a leather cover for it, which gives me the feel of a quality book, but the readability in the bright sunlight that I'm loving with the Kindle.  For Christmas I got a Kindle Fire, which I also love, but for me it serves a different function.   The Kindle is nothing but a reader for me (though you can surf the net on it, it is more cumbersome), and I only turn the WiFi on when I need to go buy a new book or download ones that I've already purchased.  My Kindle Fire is my tablet, my internet connection without the bulky laptop or PC.  This allows me to be on FB, or playing games, while sitting in my living room recliner with hubby while he watches TV.  I do read on it, but it is more like reading on the PC, so I prefer the regular Kindle for my reading.  I love the fact that my smart phone has the Kindle app, my laptop has the Kindle app, as does the PC, so no matter what I have with me, or where I'm at, my books are always available and they synch between the devices so I can pick up where I left off, no matter which device I'm using.

I have pretty much given up on reading actual paper copy anymore, as I like the portability of the Kindle.  It takes up a lot less space when traveling than regular books, especially if you were to pack more than 1, like I normally have to.  I agree with the previous poster who stated that the typos on some of the e-books is abhorrent and drives me nuts, but I'm finding that if I move from the cheap or free books and on to my preferred authors, some of this has improved.  I really feel that e-books are coming into their own, and so the formatting and editing will improve on them too.  I do like that the Kindle quickly allows you to change the size of the font on the book, as each book appears to have it's own font, and what is readable in one book may be unmanagable in another, so this smooth transition to a different font helps alot.

I researched buying a kindle and after talking to others I decided to pay more and buy an ipad.  I have not regretted it for one minute, I absolutely love it.  My trusty old laptop is just about redundant.  I downloaded kindle for ipad, piece of cake!  Buying the ipad and downloading books from amazon (many of them free) has re-lit my enthusiasm for reading.  Its good being able to have two books on the go at one time, yet I just grab my ipad and off I go.  I also like the fact that its much lighter than the laptop, especially good for travel.

And I'm quite excited as it looks like, finally, Kindle Fire is coming to the UK later this year, although as yet no idea when or how much it'll be.  While it's not an iPad and will no doubt be heavier than the Kindle itself, this always sounded like a great tablet.

CountriGal are the books on Kindle Fire in colour, eg covers and any illustrations, or are they all still black and white?

Think I've said before, I have a 3G Kindle, which means it should access the internet at all times (or rather, where there's a signal) but as others have said, it is extremely clunky and only for use in a real emergency.  I love my Kindle and although I don't have a lighted cover, I do have a clip on light which I can use - not done so yet as I've only just got it, and I think it'll be fine for a quick chapter read before bed on the boat kind of thing.

I now have an office iPad which is quite heavy - compared to the Kindle it's about, I don't know, 10 times?  So I'd still want my Kindle to take on a short break for my books rather than the whole iPad.  My work one is wifi only - the directors have 3G access on a monthly contract but I didn't need that for work so if I wanted a 3G tablet for myself, I'd need to buy one.  Have to say am loving the iPad, but would love to have a play of an Android one too just for comparison.

Jackie... Kindle Fire is in COLOR!!!!  :)  And it really isn't noticably heavier than the Kindle itself, especially in the leather case.  I find that I switch between the two constantly, depending on what my priority is.  I like the Kindle app on all my electronics, but it does not beat the readability that you gain with the actual Kindle when reading a book.  No eyestrain, the ability to change the font size with a push of a button, able to treat it like a "real" book (ie: I push the button for the next page just before I finish reading that page -- like I start to turn the page as I come to the end of the page - and the slight delay in "turning" the page is enough to allow non-stop reading), and the lack of fingerprints or smears to read through make it my favorite reading item of all time!  While I will read on my Fire, it still is reading on a PC, with the backlit screen causing eye strain after a bit, and the need to "swipe" across the screen to turn the page causes smears and prints that can also make it bothersome to read through.  I have to use a lot of hand lotion due to a skin condition, and will not use my Fire until that has had time to absorb into my skin, but I can pick up my Kindle and read without any worries.

ok the burning question for me on an ereader, from someone that doesn't like to pick up a book, would it make a difference in format, or if it's just that I don't enjoy sitting and reading cuz I don't like the idle down time that much.  I just don't find the joy in it, but maybe just maybe if the format were different I could indulge in a book or two or three....there are a few out there that have my interest which I am hesitant to go and buy, any thoughts?

My thought is if you don't like to reading for pleasure than the formatt won't make a difference.  However maybe your down time activities have changed and you might enjoy reading more.  Is there anyone you could borrow one from for a weekend to try before you buy.  It's not the same but you can read books on computers also, possible test format.
I still read paperbacks as well as iPad books but then I've been a reader almost from the time I found books.  The parents would take my brother and I to the library weekly.  I would take a box to carry the books home.

Atlanta-hoping that will be the case this winter, more down time to find things i enjoy.  might be a start.  good idea on borrowing one for a while to see if i'll use it and enjoy it.  thanks.

Depending on your phone capability Diamond, you might be able to download an ereader app there?

As for the library, in the old days (!) you used to be able to have two books at a time.  I'd be back same day sometimes and the librarians were initially suspicious that I'd read them (like it's any of their business).  then they realised that I was a quick reader, I often stayed in the library to read a book and handed it back after a couple of hours!  I was usually there at least every other day if not daily!  Now I think you can get 6 or more, but have stopped using libraries as all the books usually stink of cigarette smoke which is extremely unpleasant to me.

I am quite excited by Kindle Fire, just will depend on what it'll cost!

I received my mother in law's old kindle (she upgraded), but to be honest, I never really use it. I just like a book with paper in my hands. Just a personal preference, though I certainly see lots of things to love about the kindle.

I was at the beach this weekend and casually observed how many e-readers vs. paperpacks were being used by beachgoers.  It's seemed to be still slightly leaning toward actual paperbacks.  I suppose I'd be concerned about getting sand, salt, etc. in an e-reader, although I imagine protective cases are probably out there for sale.  (I wear an insulin pump and have a specially designed, waterproof plastic case for it when I go to the beach to protect it from water, sand, salt and possible seagull "bombs".)

For me, part of the beach experience is having that trashy little beach novel in your bag, getting slightly damp and wrinkled, but you don't care because, well, it's a trashy little beach novel.   ;D

I don't have one, and I'm really not all that fired up about getting one.  Of course, in my house we still have a turntable for playing albums that were never released on CD (Happens in the classical arena), so..... ::)

I have an Ipad, but I actually want a kindle.  It would fit in my purse where and Ipad is a bit bigger.  I just wnat it for reading and to go things.
