Title: Bring your daughter to work day?
Post by: msjagfan on February 07, 2001, 10:07:51 am
Does anyone know when the "Bring your daughter to work day" is?  I visited the MS. Magazine website, but have not been able to find anything yet.

I didn't realize they still had this, I thought they changed it to bring your child to work day, since I only have a son I never really paid attention.  Where I work they don't recognize it, and I'm sorry I don't know when it is.

I work in the same company as my mother, sorta. I joked about it that I would sit at her desk all day. Since my sister also works with us, we'll take turns!  Her in the morning and I'll sit there in the afternoon!

I worked for a company that had an entire day for bring your kids to work day.  They gave out balloons, showed science experiments, had a special lunch for the kids and parent and gave out samples of the gum they made.  It was such a great day spending it with my son.  I am hoping the company I work for now, will have a day for our kids.

Take Our Daughters To Work Day is sponsored by the Ms. Foundation for Women.  Info and ideas can be found at the site above (sorry, I tried to make a link but I'm in a hurry!).

My company doesn't mention anything about it, but if you want to bring your daughter, niece, etc., you can.  I have never participated in this before, but this year I am planning to bring my niece who is 11 years old.  A co-worker, who is bringing her daughter, and I are going to take the girls on a tour of the building together.  I'm planning on taking my niece to lunch, then home and I'm going to take the rest of the day off.

We have a "Bring Your CHILD To Work" Day.  The company goes all out for this.  They have a short introduction, a tour of the complex, every child is assigned an ID badge, they get a sack of goodies.  Then the parents are to pick them up for the rest of the day.

The only thing I don't like about it is, kids over 13 can't participate.  I would think better use of the time would be to recruit high school kids to attend so they can see what we have to offer job-wise.  We have so many openings in our company, it isn't funny.  They can get a look at our benefits, flexible work schedules, etc. and hopefully apply after graduation.
