Title: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: susans on September 18, 2006, 06:02:03 am This will be interesting becuase of the global participants of the forum board. What is your favorite TV show? Do you like reality TV, dramas, nature shows, etc.?
Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: gee4 on September 18, 2006, 09:02:14 am As a child I loved US programmes like The Brady Bunch, Bewitched etc, in the UK I loved The Double Deckers, Banana Splits. I hate dramas, cartoons and not really into sitcoms, however one of my favs of the 90's has to be Friends. I still love watching repeats today. To be honest there is very little on TV these days that is worth watching apart from sport!
Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: queenbean on September 18, 2006, 09:16:54 am I'm afraid I'm turned off by a lot of what's on UK TV - soaps and unfunny sitcoms just don't do it for me. I don't watch a great deal of sport, but I did get caught up in the World Cup and I'll be watching the Ryder Cup too.
I mostly enjoy lightweight drama, usually American - West Wing, CSI (all versions although the original is still the best), Grey's Anatomy, House, Law & Order. And of course the late, great Friends, Frasier and Will & Grace. I don't do reality TV (can't bear things like Big Brother), but I am a bit of an Apprentice addict. Again I prefer the USA version with Donald Trump, but still enjoyed the UK one too. QB Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: Jackie G on September 18, 2006, 10:19:27 am The West Wing, which is currently being repeated here in the UK on More4 right from the start. As Series 5 was never shown here, I am determined not to miss it!!!
Comedy - Friends and Mash I think. Jackie, Peer Moderator www.iqps.org Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... But also like The Apprentice (UK) and Who Do You Think You Are (covers genealogy) H. Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: diamondlady on September 18, 2006, 01:46:04 pm For me it used to be Alias before it went off the air last year, and I used to watch 24 without fail. But now, I don't have time to watch much television with 4 plus acres to care for and a massive pumpkin patch with three giants (200 plus pounds) to take care of, so by the time I get inside, it's past 9:00 and I'm too pooped to care whats on.
I watch alot of TV Land as it has lots of the old TV shows I used to LOVE to watch, like All In The Family, Little House On The Prarie, Brady Bunch, and Happy Days. A few of my favorites back in the day. And of course, CMT has Dukes of Hazzard on, and I try to catch that when I can. But I have the full series on DVD, so not a priorty. Favorites on the air now are Grand Ole' Opry on GAC and What Not To Wear on TLC. Love that stuff. Love the home make over shows too, those are great for ideas on my own home. Otherwise, hubby is in a rut, he loves to watch Star Trek Next Generation and its on every night on G4 for us anyway and I think 2 episodes back to back, OY! By that time, I don't care whats on. I'm more of a movie buff anyway. Diamondlady Peer Moderator ![]() Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: countrigal on September 18, 2006, 02:41:59 pm Ok, all US versions: CSI (all except Miami, and yes, original is best)... Law and Order (all versions and Season 17 starts soon!)...Criminal Minds... Without a Trace....House (though just discovered it last season - late)... and just started a new show we like - Justice. Ones that are my fav, but not hubby's, are Ghost Whisperer, the Apprentice, and lately the Runway. Last 2 are the only 'reality' shows I watch other than Nashville Star when it comes on. Can't wait for another season of that show and get to pick yet another country music star. I'm 3 for 3 currently.
![]() I guess looking at our DVR listing you'd have to say we like drama, but really love comedy. Just doesn't seem to be much good comedy on that isn't re-runs. We do watch 2-1/2 Men, which is funny, but I think it's all re-runs too, though new to us. For those who watch the Apprentice, did y'all here that Trump fired his female assistant from there? Carolyn, wasn't it? Anyway, evidently she went off and did something on her own and he fired her for it. Rumor that I heard had the guy off there also either fired or quitting... what was his name? I'm bad with names, unfortunately, so can't remember off the top of my head. Anyone else hear this information or anything similar? I also like Ghost Whisperer, Las Vegas and CSI. Ddiva Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: countrigal on September 18, 2006, 05:42:30 pm Oh, I forgot them... How could I??? Supernatural House Law & Order (all three) Criminal Minds The Closer Bones NCIS Smallville Gilmore Girls Without A Trace Young & the Restless (thank God for the DVR) Hex (BBC America) I'm sure there are a few more, but they aren't coming to mind right now. Can you tell I'm a drama junkie??? I'm looking forward to all of the premiers this week, but next week is going to be difficult as House, Gilmore Girls and NCIS are all on at the same time and the DVR only allows recording of two channels one of which you have to watch. However, if Gibbs doesn't come back as a regular on NCIS, I'll probably drop that one. And CW's new show Runaway looks like of interesting. I'll watch the first episode to see if Donnie Wahlberg does a decent job. He did pretty good in The Path to 9/11 - surprised me to be honest. I'm really looking forward to Criminal Minds this week to find out what happens to Elle and Supernatural next week (I wanted to cry at the season finale just because the car was messed up). So far the new shows I've watch haven't been bad but they aren't all that good either. I'm just glad that the reality shows are paring down - I have never been a fan and Lord help my children if I catch them watching one. I refuse to support a shows that encourages people to mistreat others and act like trash. Michelle ![]() Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Criminal Minds Law and Order - all three Monk Closer CSI - the orignial don't care for Miami or New York And since it is that time of year - Football - preferably any college game but I never miss watching Notre Dame or Nebraska - my two favorite teams. Post by: joysmile60 on September 19, 2006, 07:37:44 pm Lately, since I've been getting older :) I've noticed that I fall asleep watching TV if I'm up much later than 10pm! I like to make it a point to watch a lot of shows, and use the summer re-run season to catch those that come on at the same time as others I like to watch. I love House, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Dancing with the Stars, and American Idol, but this summer got hooked on My Name is Earl and The Office. I used to watch Lost faithfully, but the plots got a little too much for me. And of course, I watch the Young and the Restless with my co-workers during our lunch hour, and tape All My Children to watch at home. Oh, and I also love Piimp My Ride when I can catch it, along with Mythbusters. And MadTV reruns on Comedy Central. Also love old movies on TCM and AMC.
Oh my god, I sound like I have absolutely no life! :) Joyce Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: adminbydesign on September 19, 2006, 07:51:37 pm !. CSI (the original - love William Petersen)

Give Bones a looksee - David Boreanaz is one of the main characters and why I watched the premiere. My daughter likes Spike too and was really tickled when James Marsters was Dr. Fine on Smallville last season. I thought it was funny to hear him talk without the accent. Does anyone else remember Giles from Buffy being in those Taster's Choice commercials way back when? Michelle ![]() Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: donnap99 on September 19, 2006, 11:14:34 pm Ya know, this makes me wonder... are we really lacking in comedies on TV, or is it just a change in tastes? Hmmm...
As for me, anything Star Trek, especially Riker - I mean The Next Generation - and Voyager. I go out of my way to watch very few things. We don't record anything, or we'd be sitting around watching tapes constantly. I really miss Alias. I also miss Alien Nation (anyone remember that one - had to have been 10 years ago!). The only thing I really try to catch right now is House. Last TV season it was The 4400. But I'll watch CSI or Law & Order when I get home just about daily because it's on and I'm too unmotivated to do anything around the house. Post by: diamondlady on September 20, 2006, 02:43:49 am I particularly enjoyed Voyager, lost trying to get their way home, excellent! And having a borg on board too, really sweet. Good way to spice thinigs up, course hubby actually liked the actress, Jeri Ryan. Also liked Next Gen, I grew up on that one. Didn't care for Enterprise at all. I liked Scott Backula but not as captain of the Enterprise. Just did not go well.
Lots of good shows I forgot about, we watch Monk once in a while. Anything on Spike of course. TCM are always good. Football season, when I remember to watch. The only reality show I have watched for some time is Survivor; however this season I only watched the first show. Reality shows are a personal choice, I believe if it is something you are interested in like the dancing or treasure hunting you would watch those reality shows. In our house we do watch some nature shows, shows on from the Discovery channels and the history channel. They are all have some really informative and interesting shows. Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: mlm668 on September 25, 2006, 04:41:48 pm Ok L & O fans,
I'd be very interested to see what you think of the two new characters. For me, the jury is still out (hee hee, couldn't resist) on the new lawyer, but I do like the new officer, "Det. Beauty Queen". The dynamic between her and Greene and Lieu is going to be very interesting to watch considering her character is so inexperienced and her being unwanted in the squad. Also, did anyone notice that her name is the same as Leiu's? Two Anitas. That goes with the three Alexandra's they've had: Alexandra Cabot on SVU, Alexandra Eames on CI and Alexandra Borgia last season. And for those of you who may have missed it, Shark premiered last week and seems to have some promise. But then I've always like crime dramas. Historical movies Aaptations of novels (e.g. Pride and Prejudice - but it depends on the actors and the script) Crime dramas, especially Inspector Morse, Wexford and Midsomer Murders Nature programmes West Wing The Apprentice Star Trek Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: officeguru on September 26, 2006, 03:54:30 pm Wow... hadn't thought of Alien Nation is quite sometime. Really liked that show, which was surprise cause most 'sci fi' shows don't do it for me. However...hehehe... when my son was born, I swore he belonged on Alien Nation (thanks to vacuum suction deforming the shape of his head... but it went back to 'normal' after a bit). :)
For me Grey's Anatomy (sigh... McDreamy...) Medium Who's Line is It (prefer American to BBC) CSI (original only) Forensic Files Cold Case Files (the one that's on Court tv... not network) Reality Shows: Will watch Apprentice, Hell's Kitchen, The Next FoodNetwork Star... and will watch American Idol though not every episode. For the new shows this season... We're giving 'Studio 60' a try - we loved West Wing... not quite sure if it's going to pan out for us - first show seemed iffy. I fell asleep last night before it came on, so will have to see what DH thought of it. The Class... seems like it has potential. My kidlet (who's 9) was watching it with me - and the adult humor was above her head enough that she didn't catch on to anything I'd have to do some explaining for! DH likes MythBusters, Overhaul, American Chopper, and any war movie around. We watch alot of FoodNetwork TV too.... Rachel Ray, Alton Brown, Iron Chef America. ![]() Diamondlady Peer Moderator ![]() Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show... Post by: raindance on September 27, 2006, 11:55:10 am I don't like the latest adapation of Jane Eyre. However, there has only been one episode, so it may improve as the story goes on.
I have read Jane Eyre many times and know the background to the story - much of the book is based on Charlotte Bronte's own experiences as well as histories and legends in her locality. I've seen several different productions, but I still prefer Timothy Dalton and Zelah Clarke (also a BBC production) as Mr Rochester and Jane. It was very true to the written story. Every director films books from a different angle and so the viewer experiences different aspects of the story. I didn't, for example, appreciate the last BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. Alison Steadman, who acted the part of Mrs Bennett, was rather shrewish and vulgar, instead of the slightly twittery, but very ladylike, Mrs Bennett that Jane Austen described. On the other hand, I know lots of people simply swooned over the actor who played the part of Mr Darcy. Title: Re: Fun Topic this week - Favorite TV show...
