This looks very interesting. I have to admit to ignorance - how safe is Belfast to visit? I'm planning a Europe visit in May, but haven't pinned down my destination. I'm thinking about Regensburg, Germany, but with an airline employee spouse, flights willing this might be a side trip.

Atlanta, Please be assured it is safe. I have lived just north of the city for over 40 years so that counts for something. The Ulster rugby team play locally and the Belfast Giants have a huge following since ice hockey arrived. The Irish Open (golf) comes to NI also this June, I believe for the first time in the north. The city is a very popular destination to visit. Since the MTV EMAs last November, MTV are coming back to host and stream live another music event in conjunction with the launch of the new Titanic tourist attraction. I have never seen so many hotels, a large number of which are full from week to week. Check out some of these sites for info - www.odysseyarena.comwww.waterfront.co.ukwww.discovernorthernireland.com

And now that flights come directly into Belfast Harbour in the heart of the city, there is no transfer time as there used to be when the airport was outside Belfast.

Just to confirm, there are 2 airports in NI - - Belfast International located about 20 mins from the city centre www.belfastairport.com- Belfast City Airport located about 4 miles from the city centre www.belfastcityairport.comDepending on which airline you choose, you will either fly into the International or City airport. Regular bus and coach services are available from the front of terminal buildings so transfers are hassle free.

Thanks for sharing. I hope to get there one day. I loved visiting northern England and Scotland a few years ago when my son was an exchange student. He has a buddy that lives in Belfast and had the pleasure of visiting there. I saw his pictures. Lovely area.

This looks an amazing place to visit and is now on my ever growing bucket list. Great article too. Did anyone watch the Julian Fellowes Titanic series on Sunday night?

I saw an exhibition when I was in Newcastle about 8 years ago. There is another exhibition in town now here in the US that I am hoping to see. Hard to believe this will be the 100 year anniversary of the tragedy.
