Title: Accomplishments
Post by: susan silva on February 10, 2010, 09:59:25 am
Everyday PAs and Admins put out fires, finish projects, start projects, answer questions, fix jams, keep their boss on schedule, juggle staplers.. well you get my point.    Bosses and co workers remember the big accomplishments, but how do you get recognized for the smaller ones?   Do you just let them pass by or do you document your achievements?

I answered this recently under Cathy's posting Interview Questions.

Yes I make a note then highlight at review.  What I see as an accomplishment, others may not, and vice versa.

I document most achievements, although I have not been subject to formal review over the past 4 years it is a habit from being in a formal appraisal scheme.  It is also useful when it comes to CV updating.

In my current role I have been made aware that the Department has a big performance review during the year and the project I am leading will be subject to particular scrutiny so I have started an Access database to record activity, including noting achievements.  This will be summarised in reporting to the Project Board but will give me the detail should I need to expand anything.

On time when I had a performance review, I took my to do list for the past 6 months and categorized and listed every little project.  It was a very long list and my boss looked at me strange at first but then realized he didn't really know what I did each day, except for what he gave me.  It was a real eye opener.
