Title: RV
Post by: Atlanta Z3 on August 01, 2012, 02:06:16 pm
You just thought is means recreational vehicle.  It really means ruins vacation.  (I now list to the Laugh channel on SAT radio in the morning -start the day with a laugh.  But I'm sure people wonder what that crazy lady is laughing about driving to work.)

I'm on the fence about RVs - anyone rent or have one?  I can see where it would be nice to avoid the hotel and I guess some of the RV parks are nicer.  But the downside - gas prices, parking and my dh would never see me because I would be asleep the entire time we are on the road.  At least in the car it's uncomfortable enough that I wake up.

My father bought one (used) and seems to enjoy it.  He takes it on trips of any real length where they will be staying a while in one location (like about a week).  The price of the rv park is really cheap and if you're going to stay for a week, you save a lot on hotel prices to help cover the cost of the gas.  But again, that depends on where you are going.  If you take it from Georgia to California, the price of gas might not be offset by the hotel savings, but you'd have to do the math.

As for sleeping... they still suggest that all passengers be seated in chairs with seatbelts and not up and moving around while it is driving.  This is for safety reasons, because if the RV were to get in a wreck, you have no safety harness and could wind up anywhere.  So depending on how well you follow directions, DH might see you more than you think.  :)
