Title: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on October 02, 2012, 11:26:08 am Nooo I am not leaving DD lol.
I was informed on Friday that I am being made redundant after 9 years :(. Gutted but also excited in some ways as to what will be in store for me. Really feel for me boss though, not been an easy task for him at all. Not sure what I am going to do yet but I have no ties and only have me and the boys to think of so I can relocate if required for the right position. So three months notice, of which I will probably only be working one then a couple of weeks out to spend lots of time with the boys and friends, before starting to temp/look for a job! I have actually put an advert in a national magazine under Jobs Wanted so will see if anything comes of that too and have started to put feelers out in other places too. Really hoping I don't have to sign on as the thought of it is just horrible and I certainly don't want to be forced into a job I don't want, I want to be choosey if I can! So heres to what could be an interesting, scarey, nail biting next few months! :) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: JessW on October 02, 2012, 12:01:20 pm Coz
Just read this and my chin hit the keyboard (they are right muppets if they are going to let you go - their loss)! 9 years, eh? That is a long time! Hope the redundancy is not as miserly as mine was after 9 years! It is definitely an exciting, nail-biting time! Do let us know what you decide you want to do (and what is best for the boys and you as a family unit!). If there is anything I can do to help, do let me know! Good luck (who knows, you may even find a new position whilst you are working out your notice period! fingers crossed) Jess (there are definitely no such things as problems ... only solutions to be found!) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: msmarieh on October 02, 2012, 03:29:58 pm So sorry to hear this sad news coz. Have you got your CV up to date? Is there any training you could get in before you leave? Any outplacement assistance from the firm? Could you sit for the Microsoft Office certifications or anything else?
Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Katie G on October 02, 2012, 04:21:11 pm Coz,
I'm so sorry to hear this, but I must say, I admire your attitude! I wish I could offer something more concrete from here, but failing that, please know that our best wishes are going with you! KatieG Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: countrigal on October 02, 2012, 04:22:30 pm Coz... sorry to hear the news, but it looks like you are doing what you do best... staying positive and attacking this head on. I think you have a good idea of how to move forward and I'm sure that something better is out there waiting for you. Good luck and keep us informed!
Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Atlanta Z3 on October 02, 2012, 04:27:48 pm I'm impressed with the positive, half full, open window attitude. I think I should have looked for a few more cliques!
I think you are spot on to take some time regroup and then start a search. With 9 years stability I would hope the perfect position will be there for you. Good luck - considering VA type work? Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on October 03, 2012, 10:02:45 am Thank you everyone for your lovely comments and words of advice and support. I will keep you all posted as to what happens.
Jess - unfortunately boss doesn't have much choice. At the moment thanks to the UK government, banks etc I am no longer a necessity, more a luxury which my boss just can't justify anymore. Formal redundancy meeting tomorrow but have already discussed it all with my boss, so we both know where we stand and what is what. Thanks for your offer of help too Marie - thank you, CV has always been kept up to date as you just never know what is going to happen. Boss has said he would help in what ever way he can but I am afraid I am one of those people that at times like this I just like to crack on and sort things myself. Katie, Countrigal and Atlanta - thank you - hopefully my attitude at the moment we get my future sorted lol. Yesterday within a couple of hours of uploading my CV to a national recruitment agency website I received a phone call from another recruiter who can also see the CVs that are uploaded to this partciular site. He was asking me if I was interested in a certain position he had available for a client as an EA, but he wouldn't tell me who the client/company was. Anyway after Googling and putting two and two together I worked out who it was and some of the people involved and behind the company are friends so I declined to be put forward for the position (don't normally mix business and pleausre). But after then talking to my Boss's business partner who is also involved in this company looking for the EA they might just take me on temporarily doing part time admin for them during my notice period, so that at least I am earning a little extra money but at the same time, still having more time to spend with the boys. Updates will follow :) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on October 12, 2012, 10:01:20 am Thank you everyone.
No news yet Chatham Lady but the closing date was only today but if I don't get invited for an interview I will be very surprised! Redundancy is all official now and hopefully finishing on the 9th November, then I am going to take the rest of the month off and hopefully get up to the wilds of West Scotland for a long weekend with the boys. :) Happy times ahead :) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on October 15, 2012, 11:37:22 am Well, my advert went in the national magazine on Friday and I have one response on Friday night and I am off for an interview tomorrow. Will mean a big move for the boys and I but will be a fabulous move for all of us too if I am successful in getting the position. Please keep everything crossed for me!!
Coz (currently off food, can't face it, butterflies in stomach. So have been forcing myself to eat especially chocolate :).) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on October 17, 2012, 04:58:33 am Interview went very very well, all very positive, infact its all a bit surreal!. My current boss apparently has given me an amazing reference. Have a couple more hurdles to get over yet but have a great feeling about this.

Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on November 01, 2012, 10:33:18 am Thought I had better give you all a little update. Going back down south for further meetings re the job I had an interview for - this is a really exciting position and fingers toes and paws crossed I really hope it happens, hopefully by the end of the month I will know if I have secured it or not. Its a very strange position to be in as it was me that placed the advert in situations wanted and got a reply, I am actually the only person in for the position! Anyway if successful I will be moving south in March and plan just to temp in the meantime.
I didn't get an interview for the position at the vets which I am quite pleased about after the stories I have heard!! Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: countrigal on November 01, 2012, 02:01:33 pm Congrats Cozwaz... and continuing to keep fingers and toes crossed. The second interview may be with other individuals, to try to ensure a proper "fit" between all key players, even if you are the only one in the running. I'm sure you'll rock it, and they would be foolish not to take you! Thanks for the update... continue to let us know.

Title: UPDATED :) Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on November 28, 2012, 12:24:11 am Well I went back down south and met lots of people, stayed the night in a lovely hotel and had a look round the village where I will be living :) YES I GOT THE JOB :)
Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: Cozwaz on November 28, 2012, 12:34:39 am Whoops previous post posted too quickly!
Anyway I really do think this will be my dream job working as PA to an amazing Lady who I have got on brilliantly from the first day we met. I am so excited and can't wait to get started in March. The Lady is part of a very well known family over here who have a huge estate, fantastic walking for the dogs, they are going to love it! There is also alot of potential for me especially with learning lots of new things. Job comes with a lovely old house in a stunning village which I am moving into a week before I start work. Removal quotes are in and I have started sorting stuff which is going/being thrown out etc already - 14 weeks to go until move day! In the meantime, I have found a temp job which is hopefully going to see me through until I move. Got it through a friend and start on Monday - its perfect as no stress, flexi hours, similar pay to what I was on but 5 less hours a week but that doesn't matter for three months. Life is looking great :) Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: countrigal on November 28, 2012, 02:53:16 pm Congrats Coz! That is sounding awesome!!!! I must say that starting to prepare for the move 14 weeks out is admirable... I'm a procrastinator and do my best work under pressure. I start with the best of plans to do like you are, and just never am able to pull it off. I'm envious of those of you who can! (and I keep hoping that I will change and be successful so i keep trying to emulate y'all!) Really sounds like an awesome deal... house included?! Just hoping that there are no surprises of the terrible sort in the works. Congrats again! And to have a temp job to carry you through is even better!
Title: Re: Time to move on to pastures new! Post by: ControlledChaos on November 30, 2012, 10:50:40 am Congratulations Coz, it sounds like an amazing job.
