Title: Alain Baxter loses bronze medal
Post by: Jackie G on March 22, 2002, 12:03:43 am
I'd just like to say I think it's time the sports regulations take a serious look at what they've done to Alain Baxter by stripping him of his medal.  No serious sportsman (or woman) in their right mind would seriously risk years of training by taking something knowing it was banned.

I have seen the same thing with a Scottish born and bred ice hockey player who took a cough medicine for a bad cold where he was left in limbo for ages before FINALLY being cleared, but it was a long long battle and did nothing for his confidence.

Nobody I know thinks Baxter is into drugs.  He lives in a small Scottish village where he is well known - I have a friend who lives there - and he is well respected.  Nobody there believes he is truly guilty.

I totally sympathise with him, and hope that the British Olympics Association do not further damage his career by banning him

I was saddened when I read this story.  I hope he appeals.
