Title: Rideshare
Post by: venim102 on August 15, 2002, 12:48:10 am
Do any of you work for an employer that offers incentives for participating in a rideshare program?  Especially on Ozone High Pollution Advisory days?

We are not having much sucess with it and I made a few suggestions.  I asked that they place a map in the cafeteria showing the area zip codes and how many employees live in each.  This may motivate people to network together on this.  I think many are too lazy or busy to call HR and make the arrangements.

Also, the incentive is donuts for the winning department.  However, most departments buy donuts on fridays anyway so this doesnt motivate either.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  It must be relatively inexpensive and easy to administer.  The largest department has 30 people.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

How about coffee, say starbucks for example for the winning party.  Sounds like an excellent idea.  Wish we did that here, however, folks are so scattered throughout the city, it's even hard to take the bus into work.  Bus is great for working in downtown, I did that for several years, but here in the suburbs its very hard to take buses, at least here.  Car pooling sounds like an excellent way to cut down on pollution and number of cars in the parking lot.  Or another thought,  free lunch since there will be a limit to the number of cars that can't go out to buy lunch anyway, that may be a good idea for the winning department.

Hmmmm, heat goes down, brain turns on at night, go figure.

Our company took some prime (close) parking spots and marked them for rideshare vehicles only.  To qualify, you must report to our Police and Security department and provide them your vehicle information and how many (and who) will be riding with you.  You get a decal and can park in those spaces.  The spaces are held on reserve for those with decals until 8:30am, at which time any remaining spots are "free".  This has done wonders for this place...course, most of our employee parking is like a 5 minute hike from the office so these close spots are a high commodity.  Wouldn't really work if all the parking was close.

Cost: minimal, cost of permits, either stickers or a plastic card that hangs down from the rearview mirror.  Plus the cost of our Police (who are on duty anyway) monitoring the area for those who are parking there and don't have a sticker, but then they get a parking ticket ($10.00 after 2 warnings) so a bit of the cost is made back.
