Title: So I'm Going To Be The Contact Person
Post by: bohorquez on August 21, 2001, 05:05:20 pm
We have some job openings at my job!  We're posting in several places including Monster.com and I'm the contact person.  They can mail/fax/email the resumes to me along with a cover letter and then I can organize it for my bosses.

I need know if anyone else has done this before.  If anyone can send me an example Thank You/Regret to Inform You letters that would be cool.

Basically, I really want to shine with this project.  I asked to be the contact person because 1.  Bossies are extremely busy and 2. I want to show them I can take on new projects.

If anyone has done this before please let me know what process you follow when the resumes have been received what are your next steps.  Any ideas I mean ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated!  Since this is something I haven't done before (and to me it doesn't seem to difficult to do) I could really use some help to get me started!

Thanks a bunch!

Bridget

My little experience with monster.com is that you are going to get goobs of hits.  Is there any way your system can automatically reply that the email has been received and is being reviewed?    If not, then I would recommend keeping a draft ready to paste in email address of sender and forward as soon as possible.  It is so irritating to send a resume and then never hearing back from the recipient.

"We appreciate your interest in XYZ Co.  The resumes will be reviewed and those applicants whose experience best meets our requirements will be contacted for interviews by 00/00/00...."  Anything that will let the person know what timeframe you are looking at.

After a candidate has been selected, you might want to respond to the finalists.  Depending on the number of resumes you receive might determine the responses.

Cool thanks Sungoddessly!

That's something I wouldn't have thought of!  Now what if my bosses don't give me timeframe then what should I say?

In order for you to do a bang up job on this, you will have to have some sort of timeframe from your bosses.  You may even ask your bosses to give you 5 criteria that qualified candidates must have.  Then offer to prescreen the resumes using these criteria.  You could put little stickies on the resumes that most stand out to you and separate the resumes with the best ones on top.

You might then want to go the next step and even offer to set up interviews.  Good candidates are actively looking and it is important to move in a timely way so you don't lose them.

Probably your bosses will let you do as much as you volunteer for so take the leadership role.  I've done this a number of time.  If you need any specific things answered, e-mail me at kkosmoski@mti.com.
