One of the biggest challenges today in the workplace is keeping organized. Time is money, and if you or your company is poorly organized, you are wasting money. Creating an efficient workspace is based on a few different strategies. These range from office wide organization to the organization of team and individual work spaces within the office.

* Office Layout

When you are creating your company's office workspace, take some time before you start placing the furniture. Organize the space to make it convenient for travel within the office itself. Provide plenty of space for employees to walk from one portion of the workspace to another. When choosing where to place desks, place them so they allow for maximum communication. Sit workers that work closely together on projects in close proximity to each other. Instead of isolating managers from teams, seat them close to their teams.

* Equipment Layout

Just as import as the seating chart for an organization is the placement of the resources within the office. If you have a large office, a centralized printing and copying room may not be efficient. Instead, you should have a printer in a central location for each individual team. This will reduce the amount of time that team members spend waiting for printouts or copies of their work. It will also allow for faster processing of important documents for clients. Instead of a single conference room, if your company has frequent meetings for small groups, create multiple conference rooms for an efficient work space.

* Space For More Than Just Work

Increase your employee's efficiency by providing them with the resources they need within the office such as a well-designed break room. This break room should have enough seats to accommodate all of your employees during the time of the day when the majority of them take a lunch break. Include enough refrigerator space in the kitchen for your employees to store their lunches. By providing a refrigerator to store lunch and a microwave to prepare it, this will reduce the amount of time your employees spend out of the office. The further they have to travel for lunch, the lower the risk that they will return late to the office.

* Personal Work Space Organization

Creating an efficient work space is not just the office designer's responsibility. Each employee should create his own efficient work space. This means creating a desk layout that is free of clutter. The equipment that is used the most frequently should be easily accessible on the desk. Equipment that is used less frequently should be kept inside drawers. Drawers themselves should be kept clean and organized, they should not be used as a trash receptacle or somewhere to place items until you have time to organize them.

* Efficient Work Spaces Are A Team Effort

For a company to keep organized and efficient, everyone must play a role in creating an efficient work space. Employees should provide feedback to their employer for ways to improve the organization within the office.
