How to Order Supplies
Trying to keep track of supplies can be a maddening task. It helps tremendously to only have to place supply orders once a week, or on a set schedule. To help do that, here are some tips on how to make sure you don’t go crazy trying to keep everything in stock:
  • Survey the supplies daily. Maybe make it part of your morning routine. If you have a common area where supplies are stored, note which supplies are running low and add them to a list.
  • Inform people: Make people aware that you place orders at set times (except for that emergency item). Try to encourage them to let you know when they are running low on something in their personal stock.
  • Extras: It never hurts to order a few extra. Sometimes people don’t realise they need things until they see someone else with it. It also never hurts to slightly overstock on items that seem particularly popular or get misplaced frequently (copy paper, binder clips, pens, notepads, paper clips).
  • Odds and sods: Don’t be afraid to occasionally keep a small stock of odd or rarely used items. You never know when someone might need a purple legal sized accordion folder. Think of how good you’ll look when you say, “well it just so happens I have one of those right here!”
  • Reminders: Send out a final reminder to the people you support before you place an order. You’ll catch any last minute requests and ensure everyone has what they need.
