How to Get Your Boss to Have Confidence In You
Share/Save/Bookmark

Getting your boss to have confidence in you needs the building of a trusting relationship. You will need to know how to be a positive extension of your boss:
  • Understand your boss's role in the organisation. Learn as much as you can about the business. Read the corporate website, explore the websites of its competitors, read trade journals and current news.
  • Believe in your boss and the company. Take ownership of your part in the larger picture. When you work, work towards your goals, which align with your manager's goals, which align with company goals.
  • Provided excellent customer service. Your boss is your best and most important customer. If your boss asks you a question and you don't have an immediate answer, research and get the answer in a timely manner.
  • Present high quality work. When you complete a project or a task, complete it in a timely manner and double check for accuracy before presenting it to the boss.
  • Be effective and proactive. Finish your work accurately and on time, but also look for how to achieve the same results faster on different projects to be more accurate and cost less.
  • Tell your boss the truth. Be truthful in your actions. When there is a situation you know your boss will not be happy about it do not sugar coat it. If you do make a mistake, do not apologise for the mistake or place the blame elsewhere, own up to it and come up with a plan to ensure it will not happen again.
  • Look and act professionally. Dress for success, in a professional and neat manner. Speak well and in clear tone. Do not subject yourself to be included in office gossip. Know where your professional boundaries begin and end in conversations and stay within those limits.
  • Maintain tact and discretion. Do not discuss your work or projects outside those involved with each project. Maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Being a partner with your boss may allow you access to information that others are not privy to; use discretion in what information you give out.
