The art of folding a letter

If you wish to be strictly proper insert the open, or unfolded edge, first.
If the envelope is as deep as half the length of the paper, the paper should be neatly folded once (i.e. in half)
If the envelope is only a third as deep, the paper should be folded twice.
Paper that must be folded into thirds is usually only used as personal stationery for men or for business purposes.
Women's personal letter paper should fold only once and fit into its envelope.
Notepaper is the same size as the envelope and goes into it flat with only the original fold.
