The Art of Folding a Letter
- If you wish to be strictly proper insert the open, or unfolded edge,
first.
- If the envelope is as deep as half the length of the paper, the paper
should be neatly folded once (i.e. in half)
- If the envelope is only a third as deep, the paper should be folded
twice.
- Paper that must be folded into thirds is usually only used as personal
stationery for men or for business purposes.
- Women's personal letter paper should fold only once and fit into its
envelope.
- Notepaper is the same size as the envelope and goes into it flat with
only the original fold.
