Now that H.R. 2525 has been introduced and assigned its bill number, it awaits consideration by the House Ways and Means Committee.

It's a great idea, and I'm all for it, but it will never happen.

I agree with RegisteredRepublican. It sounds terrific! The problem is, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.

It sounds great - but I'll believe it when I see it.

Why can't people just realize that taxes are a part of life and just pay them instead of constantly complaining about them and trying to come up with ways to get out of them or pay less?
Taxes are necessary to cover the expenses of all the governmental services we depend on. We wouldn't have ambulance services, police protection, decent roads to drive on, running water, sewage systems, etc...
If we cut taxes, can we also cut these services without complaints? I think not.
The people of America should just stop whinning and appreciate all the services their tax dollars are providing for everyone.
But that's just my opinion.

I have no problem with paying my taxes. Once.
What I have a problem with is paying taxes on the money I make, and then paying taxes on every purchase I make with the money that is already taxed.
Therefore, if one of those steps is eliminated, I'm all for it.
Besides which, our taxes do not pay for nearly enough. I still have to purchase my own health insurance, even though
that
part of my income is not taxed. In other countries there are many more benefits received by the citizens, because they pay taxes.
I pay separately for my water and sewage, it does not come out of my taxes. The roads I drive on are paid for by the tollway system my state uses.
Until the time that a utopian-mindframe comes to America, people will complain about taxes.
So add my name to the list of complainers and whiners. The Bill of Rights allows free speech ... and that's my opnion.

Tax Relief is not Tax Elimination

We are not just "whining" - in fact we should be standing up and screaming! "Whining" is just that - the Fair Tax and those who support it are not just complaining about paying taxes - they are trying to come up with a solution.
The FairTax is NOT about eliminating taxes - it is about everyone paying their fair share, based on consumption. It is about simplifying the tax laws so that you don't have to be a CPA or tax lawyer to understand them. It is about closing the loopholes & tax shelters that the richest people use to avoid paying taxes. It is about doing away with the extraordinary powers the IRS has that allow it to compel taxpayers with the threat of prison and/or seizure of assets, garnishment of wages, outrageous penalties and interest, etc. - all the tools of coercion that the IRS has.
Yes, it may sound too good to be true. But the only thing needed to make it true is the voters. If the legislators don't pass the Fair Tax - then we should elect ones who will. Too many people vote without examining the issues or worse, don't vote at all. The career politicians count on it in fact - once elected they feel free to spend taxpayer money for their own agendas (i.e. buying more votes to get re-elected).
Take just a minute and really read the original post - or better yet, visit the FairTax website for a fuller explanation.

Okay, I admit the Fair Tax idea sounds like a good idea. But I don't think it'll ever pass because asking politicians to think logically is a lot to ask. They always seem to do what is most illogical.
I apologize for calling everyone whiners and complainers. When I posted my comments, I was frustrated (and still am) about our state's budget situation. We are taking in very low amounts of revenues this year and are in a crunch. We are stuck between a rock and a hard place so to speak. We have citizens demanding better government services but they also want government to lower taxes. They can't have it both ways. These things cost money but no one seems to realize that.
Again, sincerest apologies. I think it sounds like a good idea to tax people fairly as long as in the end government can still afford to meet the basic needs of the people.
