I hope you step back and look objectively at yourself and your personality before making your final decision to go for it. Management is not for everyone. I know many police officers and IT professionals (and other positions) where people are promoted to desk positions and later regret being out of the front lines. They feel like they don't do any actual work; they just process paperwork.



Whether or not you are capable of this position, the real question is would you actually be HAPPY in a management position? For myself, I would hate to be office manager as I feel like they get all the complaints and little of the glory. Naturally those actually doing the job probably feel differently,   but it's my personal opinion and it's why I have avoided the position. I don't necessarily want to have the responsibility that comes with management or the limelight. Although I like mentoring people, I would rather not be writing up their reviews and processing their terminations.



Only you can decide if the responsibilities involved in this job are what you want. Just be sure to weigh the wonderful (the chance to make a difference, more money, a wider range of responsibilities) with the less-wonderful (the first time you have to fire someone, dealing with problem employees, etc.).
