I'm on a long-term temping assignment right now (the permanent postholder is taking a sabbatical to complete her studies) and am applying for jobs but there is no rush to find something else.

I submitted an application at the end of March this year for a post which was advertised in mid-March.  There are two posts being advertised for admin supports to the two head honchos of this particular company (Chairman and Chief Executive).  They couldn't give an interview date when I applied and I have now heard that I have been shortlisted.  They still don't have an interview date but the company's letter to me says "in a few weeks".  Of course, I've replied to say I am still interested.  I'm very pleased to be shortlisted as I am getting on a bit in years and the jobs market is really tough right now.  In addition, posts such as the ones I am after (high profile and equivalent remuneration package) just don't come up very often even when times are good. However, I'm a bit puzzled that a company doesn't seem to be able to establish a proper recruitment schedule prior to advertising a post. I know that it isn't always easy to recruit people and there may be other factors involved - they may not actually HAVE their CEO/Chairman in post right now - and I don't want to seem like a diva (although by DH says I can be diva-ish) but being kept "hanging around" is a bit frustrating.

I'll just keep smiling and wait, but if anyone else makes this diva a better offer ...

Don't worry.  When organising interviews, it very much depends on the panel's availability.  Things in my company change at the last minute and as many people travel it is difficult to pinpoint dates so far in advance.

Bear in mind, not all companies schedule interview dates in advance of posting a job advert.

My suggestion is be patient.  I too would feel the same but if you have an interview confirmed then just relax and await further details.  You could use the time to prepare.

Good luck by the way.
