Just a note to say thank you very much for your replies about agencies - it is nice to know that I am not alone out there and will help my paranoia about being useless disappear!!!  

I did go to what is supposed to be a really good agency in the city last week and was advised that if I did not hear from them in a week, I should get in touch - three days to go!!!

Sweetie, I am TOTALLY with you all the way on this one. I think recruitment consultant is what these people do when they don't have the skills to become an admin .
