Is it time for Israel to fight back?  Is it time for another war?

The US didn't deliver it's usual "just keep your chin up; don't fight back" spiel yesterday - is that a sign to Israel that the US has had a taste of terrorism and would now stand behind Israel in fighting back the terrorists who attack them?

Should the US go from Afganistan to Israel, maybe with a short stop in Iran to finish off whats-his-name, which should have been done when we had the chance?

What say you?

Politics and world affairs need to be handled very delicately.  

The Isreali/Palistinian conflict is an extremely volatile situation - so volatile that any immediate response or retailiation is not the answer...especially where the U.S. gets involved.  The U.S. should NOT support one side or the other - they need to stay in the middle trying to help mediate and mitigate and help resolve, as they have been trying to do.  

Now that the entire world's attention is on eliminating terrorism world-wide, I think it's prudent that the U.S. use diplomacy and well-thought out plans and decisions that are inclusive of the world leaders in the United Nations.  I think it would be very wrong if the U.S. went around on a solo mission bombing and reacting without regard to the foreign countries's thoughts on how to handle it.  It's especially important now to work towards rebuilding and refining our (the U.S.) foreign policy - frankly, it's a mess right now and should be our focus.  I believe that our foreign policy and foreign relations are a major reason why we are in the trouble we are in now (meaning much world-wide anti-American sentiment).  America (and Americans) has been living in a bubble for way too long  - we've been oblivious to reality (we only know our own reality) - and it's time we got out there and realized that there is a whole 'nother world out there...it's not just the U.S.A. living on this planet!!!

And to answer your question, no... the U.S. should not go from Afganistan to Israel, maybe with a short stop in Iran to finish off whats-his-name,.  We've got to be very careful, considerate and walk on egg shells right now and work through diplomatic processes.  It's important that we have the support of the other nations in how to handle things.  If we don't we'll destroy any foreign relations that we currently have or are trying to rebuild.  We can't be looked upon as this powerful country that goes around bombing whenever we feel like it.  That's wrong - there has to be support form other nations.  

Somewhere deep down inside, I have a feeling that something very good is going to come out of our current situation.  We will have to endure some bad, but eventually, I think that goodness will prevail.  It may not happen in my lifetime, but I still have that hope.  :-)

Superninjaadmin you speak with a great deal of tact and knowledge. Personally I think this was Britains mistake in years gone by sorting other countries conflicts out or even having a selfish strategic interest.

The UN is there to do a job and I believe it is they who should get involved in some peacekeeping activities.

Don't get me wrong the UK and the USA had every right to attack Al Quaeda and the Taliban but a foray into Palestine would be a nightmare.

swhaley, I agree wholeheartedly!  I have often wondered why the U.S. insists on sticking its nose into the business of other countries.  Like you, I feel the U.N. should be the one to do the mediating.  I have never really understood why so many U.S. presidents spend so much of their time trying to mediate between Israel and Palestine.  I have often wondered if they have helped or hindered.

I watched an EXCELLENT and profound documentary on PBS last night called "Promises" about Isreali and Palistinian kids.  I hope they replay the program again.  It was very insightful and gave an in-depth perspective of the life these kids and families live every day.  I fell in love with all of them.  Click on the hyperlink (or paste it into your address line) to access for more information on the documentary and the background of the producers and story.  It's much more than the filtered stuff we hear and watch on the news each day.
