I can't decide if this is funny or offensive. What do you think? Does it set us back 150 years? Or is this too stupid to pay attention to?

I'm afraid that this movie promotion will strike a few nerves amongst those people in our profession.  Anyway, it looks like the movie is set back in the '60s or '70s - back when this type of sexual innuendo ran rampant in the workplace.    Maybe this movie will end up benefitting our profession, not degrading it - maybe it will show everyone how bad it was in the past and how it has changed for the better, now.  It's supposed to be a love story...  The promos look pretty wild...so we shall see...

Just watched the trailer.  It seems a little "bizarre".  I think it is about dominance/submission played out in the boss/secretary role.  Isn't James Spader always playing these creepy types?

I'vre said it before and I'll say it again, substitute any other "Group" in your thinking about this movie.  If it were Titled WOMEN, or BLACK or FEMALES we'd all be outraged at the art and veneer applied to this piece of trash.

I think it enhances and utilizes a steroetype that many of us have worked very hard to overcome and I dislike it very much.  I won't see it to make a full judgement, as I won't assist them by adding even one dollar to their pockets.

The art alone, denegrates women, and tying the secretarial profession into it just makes it all the worse. There were a lot of other ways to go with the promotion for this movie, but they picked, par usual, the most sensational route possible without thought to the group it might affect in the long run.

I say let's all voice our distaste (or insert a few other words here) about this movie, and send it to the producers.  I understand it's an independent film,  but that does not make it right.  This is not someone doing a documentry of male chauvanist pigs directing their assistance, it's pure fiction.  I'm not spending my money on it!

I think the outrage is a little over the top. We all know what our jobs are and how important our roles are in our respective organizations. Remember this is a movie about A secretary, not ALL secretaries. Besides, being an admin is what we do, not what we are. I hardly think this movie is going to set the secretarial profession back any further. And I seriously doubt the next person who interviews you is going to mention the movie or ask if you're into the same thing as old Maggie.

Lioness I was feeling the same way, but didn't want to post it.  I think sometimes the focus is spent on the job itself and not the people who perform the job.  Believe me there are all types of Admins, Secretaries, and Assistants.  This is true in any profession. You are correct when you say "being an admin is what we do, not what we are."   I just think getting so upset over a movie or poster or marketing is wasted energy.  I have been in this career for over 26 years and let me tell you we are further along than most people realize.  I can't even begin to tell you some of the things I have seen in that time period.  But I can tell you one thing instead of getting upset I work towards making myself and my career better.  It's all a matter of perspective!
