I am ready to scream!

Another mini-meltdown from me.
I am currently seeking a new position. I think if I have to read another ad online requiring the following, I am going to jump out the window (No, I won't). Just frustrated.
Recent college grad
Able to multi task (a previous rant I posted about).
Bachelors degree is a must
This is the majority of the requirements I have been looking at. Recent college grad? I can be 92 and have received by degree in 2011 because I went back to school.
Multi-tasking. Do not take me there. I have vented on that in the past. Really, I can talk to 3 different customers on the phone, type that report in Word, on the desktop and then prepare the Powerpoint presentation with my toes on the laptop all in 15-minutes. Oh wait, we need 100 copies of the financial report too for a meeting that started 10-minutes ago! A degree required? I am going to spend $150K to make the lousy $12.50 per hour that you are offering

The $150K is what I would have to spend at University for a degree.

Definition of Multi Tasking from Britanania

Notice that the definition applies to a computer, not a human being. OK I am going back to my little corner of the world. I have vented and feel better.
multitasking, the running of two or more programs (sets of instructions) in one computer at the same time. Multitasking is used to keep all of a computer’s resources at work as much of the time as possible. It is controlled by the operating system, which loads programs into the computer for processing and oversees their execution until they are finished.
Multitasking involves overlapping and interleaving the execution of several programs. This is often achieved by capitalizing on the difference between a computer’s rapid processing capacity and the slower rates of its input/output devices. While the computer is reading data from a magnetic disk at a fairly limited rate, for example, its powerful central processor can execute at high speed another program that involves extensive calculations but very little input. Operating systems coordinate the competing demands of various programs in a variety of ways. Two programs can be executed on a small computer using a foreground/background system, in which the computer executes the instructions of one program only in between the times it devotes to running another program of higher priority. Such a system makes use of idle times in some tasks, such as the minute delays between keyboard entries, to execute instructions in the background program. In many multitasking operations, a computer’s microprocessors switch their attention back and forth between different programs in fractions of seconds.

(((chikky)))
Take a breath.
Remember these are wish list items, you can always wow them with your passion/etc. Don't let the buzz words get you down.
Recent college grad to me translates into we want to mold you from the ground up, so sell your openess to new ideas and thinking outside the box.
Multi-tasking. Honestly some people get flustered when more than one thing comes at them at a time. Really. I've had to let admins go because of this.
Degree is a must. I do have to say that gets me down as well because many are asking for this. Some places do toss any resume without a degree and honestly I think it's stupid. I temped at a place like that. Big name company. I watched them make a job offer to a very sweet girl on my team, new college grad, very sweet but not bright. Really not bright as in low iq. Could barely do the work, felt very challenged when all she was doing was data entry and I spent a lot of time coaching her. They offered her a job but not me, me with the glowing resume, because of my lack of degree. To overcome this I say networking is key. Also, once those high-horse darling companies aren't the darlings they once were, they become more flexible. If you can get in the door you can over come this as well.

Chikky,

All wish lists are part of the selection criteria to sift out those who may be suitable for the job. Hard skills will get you an interview but you need soft skills to get (and keep) a job. Remember you have to perform well at interview not just on paper.

Recent college grad to me says entry level position with low pay.
Very frustrating indeed the way some of these ads are worded.

I too am amazed at how many admin positions want a bachelor's degree.
But then my high-school teacher friend reminded me that a bachelor's degree is considered by many employers to be the equivalent of what a high school diploma was twenty years ago. And that, likewise, now a master's degree is the equivalent of what a bachelor's degree was twenty years ago. Look up "academic inflation" or "degree inflation".

Ok, I can understand the degree thing, depending on the level of the executive you would be supporting. But I just cam across an employment ad that one of the requirements was that you had a personal CAR. If you
do not
have a car, do not respond to this ad. I know it is an employer's market out there. BUT, how rude!

This sounds like a scam to me! If they could put that lot, then I bet they also wanted to put "must provide own salary as no income derived from this job"!

Actually, the "use your own computer" bit makes me think that they want an independent contractor -- all those requirements for not even a full time position.....
