Superninjaadmin you speak with a great deal of tact and knowledge. Personally I think this was Britains mistake in years gone by sorting other countries conflicts out or even having a selfish strategic interest.

The UN is there to do a job and I believe it is they who should get involved in some peacekeeping activities.

Don't get me wrong the UK and the USA had every right to attack Al Quaeda and the Taliban but a foray into Palestine would be a nightmare.

8  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: cold calling on: November 30, 2001, 11:02:02 am
OK this might just tip the apple cart. For the majority of my working life I have worked in Sales. The hardest and most frustrating part of the job is cold calling. Can I ask you to take your admin hat off for awhile and imagine you are the salesperson. You have sold nothing for 3 weeks and week 4 is make and break. You may have bills piling up or kids to feed and cannot afford to be unemployed again. You sit at your desk on Monday morning and it stares you in the face 200 or so companies to call.

I have been involved with many seminars on cold calling and there are 2 kinds of salesmen. Those who get it right and those who get it very wrong.

Those who get it wrong are rude, impolite and do not listen to what the 'gatekeeper'  is saying. Those who get it right are those who are polite, respectful and listen. No offence but its amazing how many clues an admin can give you if you listen.

The hardes part of cold calling is not knowing the decision makers name. Here you have to rely on the gatekeeper, if you annoy her then forget it, the good salesman will use a gatekeeper as an ally. Ok so there is a lot of flattery and fudge but most times it will work. My take on it is that you have to make the gatekeeper feel respected and valued.

I often use the gatekeeper to save my and that company's time. Examples:

1, Ok so the person I need to speak to is not in. I will engage a bit of chat with the Admin. Something like 'Rebecca does your company sell its products to the UK? 'No only to France and Germany.

I then know not to call this company back as the product I am selling will be of no use to them. I do not call back so saving my time, the admins time and the decision makers time.

I could go on and on lol!

Cold Calling is a skilled art believe it or not, its just that as sometimes admins do not feel valued it is the same for cold callers. Especially those who do not believe in what they are doing.

I am not defending all cold callers here as I know there are some nasty ones out there. Best thing though is to remain calm and respectful to the salesman and most times they will say fair enough and move on.

AS far as I know Liberty do not get involved in campaigning against religious instruction in schools (or elsewhere).

Personally though I believe in the French model where there is no religion in school. I do not think any religion should be rammed down peoples throats.

There should be Religjous Education so that people learn about the different faiths that are out there.

Information just in from the Coast:

Winders 98 Warnin

It has come to our attention that a few copies of the
Kentucky Edition of Windows 98 may have been accidentally shipped
outside the state of Kentucky.

If you have received one of the Kentucky editions, you may
need some help understanding the command structure.

It is easy to determine if you received an errant copy.
When the machine is booted, a logo reading "Winders 98"
appears as the first four bars of "My Old Kentucky Home Page" plays. A
wallpaper of General Lee standing in front of a Confederate flag are
displayed.

The operating system is shipped with a Daisy Duke screen
saver.

You'll also notice the following modifications:

a.. RECYCLE BIN is labeled "OUTHOUSE"
b.. MY COMPUTER is called "THIS INFERNAL CONTRAPTION"
c.. DIAL UP NETWORKING is called "GOOD OL BOYS"
d.. CONTROL PANEL is known as "THE DASHBOARD"
e.. HARD DRIVE is referred to as a "WHEELIE" and
f.. FLOPPIES are "Them little plastic disk thangs.

Command Guide:
OK = ats aww rite

Reset = aww ****
YES = Shore
NO = Naw
FIND = Hunt fer it
GO TO = over yonder
BACK = back yonder
HELP = git me outa here
STOP = ternit off

PROGRAMS = stuff at does stuff

MY DOCUMENTS = stuff I done

Some additional options, upgrades and general information:
a. The numeric keyboard only goes up to six.
b. Outgoing faxes and Emails carry an automatic beer
stain
c. The monitor works better when put up on blocks
d. The menus all have Budweiser, Black Label and Old
Milwaukee options.
e. WINDERS 98 does not recognize capital letters or
punctuation  marks.
f. Instead of an ERROR MESSAGE, you get a winder covered
with  plastic and duct tape.

If you have received a Kentucky Edition by mistake, you may
return it to Microsoft for a replacement version. Return the
product in its original packaging along with your money order for $199 to
cover shipping and handling. (Please allow 18 months for delivery).

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I am a Royalist I believe in the institution though not necessarily those who are in the structure if you know what I mean.

Personally I prefer Queen Elizabeth the Second as opposed to President Blair.

While many people mock the Prince of Wales I think he is doing a great job and will make a great King.

It has been a long time since a real 'royal' has shown an interest in real life issues. For example we had a nasty bout of foot and mouth and our farming industry was hit badly again. There was Charlie raising morale and lobbying the government, he also has some very radical views on the environment and organic ie Non GM farming. Leave our Charlie alone! ;-0
