1  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Expense Reports on: April 26, 2016, 10:45:37 pm
I do two types.  Some expenses are reported using old fashion paper reports with the receipts attached.  Some others are paid with company credit cards and those expenses are reported monthly via an online system with scanned receipts.  These reports first go to an outside company for auditing, then to the persons supervisor for approval and finally to Finance for a second audit and payment to the CC company.

Nope.  My pay increase have nothing to do with others.  If they deserve one they should get it but I should not have to give up mine so they can get a bigger increase.  The supervisor is wrong to ask.  Pay increases and amounts should be between an employee and the company only.

Not allowed in my building.  If they were and someone brought their dog, I would quit immediatly.  I have extreme cynophobia and there is NO way I could work in an office near a dog.  They are lovely in pictures but I just cannot bring myself to get near one.

I should note though that I didn't have a problem at my previous company sharing an office with my bosses pet snake  Cheesy

I'm happy with my job.  Of course there are bad days when I want to punch my boss or coworkers (haven't done it yet, keep your fingers crossed for me  Grin ), but in general I am happy.  I like what I do, get along fairly well with my coworkers, my boss is a handful but I have learned to adjust and work well with him and I am very well compensated.

I have to agree with Atlanta, older and wiser me just stays home.  Doesn't make the boss happy but it won't make him happy either when things get worse and I have to be hospitalized.  Yes, when I was younger I felt the company would fall apart if I was out 1 day.  I remember going into work with a raging bladder infection, so bad I could barely walk.  I finally went to the doctor and had to be hospitalized because my temperature was through the roof.  Amazingly the office still managed to stay afloat with me gone two whole days.

If you really, really can't take a little time off, then I would do as Atlanta suggests and take OTC meds and try to rest as much as possible when you get home.  Also, take a can of Lysol with you and spray everything down for your co-workers' sake.  Last thing you want is an office epidemic.

Hope you feel better soon.  Smiley

I would definitely fess up now.  I have found that my boss is more sympathetic and understanding when I am honest and forthright as soon as I make a mistake.  It happened just the other day.  I made a mistake, not huge but still, he was screaming and yelling in his office about it, I came in and said "it was my mistake, I forgot to mail that and will take care of it immediately".  His demeanor changed immediately, he calmly said "okay, please be more careful" and the whole thing was done.

I would be uncomfortable with that hanging over me all weekend.

Actually Jennika I think that an upbeat attitude is a great help in the office.  Let's face it, we're stuck here most of the day and there is nothing worse than being surrounded with negative attitude.  I find that when most of my time is positive, upbeat and smiling we get a LOT more done.

A few things: PowerPoint, Translating, Immigration Requirements, solving travel issues.

However, the one thing everyone comes to me for - correspondence.  Apparently I write (or respond to) a complaint/report email, memo, or letter like no ones business.  Honestly I usually do get the response I want.  My brothers say I am somewhat passive aggressive in my writing, but it seems to get the job done.  I started just by helping one of the other assistants because of a language barrier, but now it seems the whole company knows to come to me when they don't quite know how to express something.

Is there a certain software particular to your industry that your boss uses?  Maybe you can learn how to use it and help him generate reports and such.  In a past job, there was a risk management software that my boss at the times used to generate risk evaluation reports.  I was able to free up a lot of his time by running these reports myself.

Or what about legal research?  Again, something I learned at another job and was able to help out.

Something that has proven very helpful in my current job is the fact that my boss speaks several languages (as to I) and I am able to translate many of his reports to the common language used in my location.  That wasn't part of my initial job description but its really a big help to him and the other execs that report to him.  I don't know if something like that would apply to you, but its something to consider and my give you some ideas.  Good luck!

Yeah, I have to agree with MT123, I would not use it for a job interview.  To me the door hanger idea might seem a little gimmicky and its probably better to keep it more formal and professional.  Of course, I don't know where you would be interviewing, so my opinion is based on my interview experience.   Wink

For me, due to my particular industry, it would be learning SAP.  There is also a productivity tracking software that my company uses that I want to learn.

Something else on my goal list for next year - learn to speak at least basic German  Smiley

Okay, forgive the dense girl but I still don't quite get it.  What type of interviews would you be handing this out at?
Job interview?
