Thank you for the replies. One other that I found is National Association of Executive Secretaries and Administrative Assistants (naesaa.org). Haven't decided if or what to join yet.

What do all of you think about the different admin organizations out there? Is one better than another? What have been your experiences with local chapters?

A lurker and occasional poster.

I agree with the magazine holders. You could also put the loose materials into comb binders to keep them together. Then all can go in the holders with labels. I am in an engineering office and deal with those comb binders quite a bit - specifications, etc. They can be a pain sometimes.

Two replies in one day - a record for me. I personally like callers who expect me to have ESP. Like when they ask me how long someone will be on the phone - what is that about? Also, one recently when I said so-and-so is on the phone and they replied "well, can you tell him I am calling" Duh, no he is on the phone!

Just read the review on on-line office supplies. I have had a somewhat different experience. Like most of you Office Depot is a big pain to deal with on-line or on the phone. They have a store near us for those emergency needs, that I will use. I have had a very good experience with Staples.com. Most of the orders are consistently here the next day. Their customer service has been exceptionally helpful and their local store manager has delivered things to me personally when the order was somehow messed up. I agree that it is sometimes difficult to find certain items. I only use Staples.com when ordering things that we always need like paper ink cartridges, etc.. I put them on the favorites list and just go straight there. They even send coupons to use. I am able to save $15-$30 on most orders. That is good for an 18 person office.

For  the daily stuff and one time items I use a local company. They give us a discount and personal service. the owner comes by every Monday, takes my order, and can answer any questions that I have. That personal touch is definately worth it!
6  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / office invitation on: August 29, 2001, 09:38:22 am
One of my office co-workers is getting married next month. She only sent invitations to a few of the staff. (Small office of only 18)  She doesn't want to offend everyone, but didn't want everyone to feel obligated also. I told her to post an invitation on the bulletin board for all to see. That would cover her bases on the offense part and then cover her on who might want to come and/or send a gift.

Are there any rules, ettiquette books, or opinions out there? Maybe Joan Lloyd could do an article on the invitations at work thing.
