General Discussion / The Humour Zone / What If Dr. Seuss Wrote Computer Tech Manuals?

In keeping with the Dr. Seuss theme...
What If Dr. Seuss Wrote Computer Tech Manuals?
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report!
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icons put your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless, and your system's gonna crash!
If the label on your cable on the gable at your house,
Says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
That's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall.
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
And the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM,
Quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your mom!

What a roller(pardon the pun)coaster ride. I've been away and missed the injury report. I'm glad that the ride is chugging along up the hill.
Congratulations and best wishes to you, Lori. I knew that someone as talented as you would find a "great fit". Don't forget to update us on after you've aclimated yourself.

Lori,
So sorry to hear your bad news. I know that you know all the pep talk and could probably recite it verbatim, but it's a new day and a new year, so.... "just thinking about tomorrow..."
I'll keep my ears open and if anything in the neighborhood comes up, you'll be the first one I'll tell.
Your neighbor - Laura

Way to go. Glad to hear that you not only solved your problem, but got kudos for it as well. Always a nice added bonus.
Don't be shy, we need to hear the Guy point of view too.

Jade,
Sorry to hear that you are moving out of the neighborhood. But it sounds like there are a lot of other good admin friends in your new neck of the woods. I wish you the best for you and your family. Good luck finding a new & fabulous job.
But even though you are moving, you'll still be "here". That's the great thing about the Admin Neighborhood.
Calm down, de-stress, and try to make it FUN!

Jade,
Glad to hear that you got a fabulous opportunity.
I'm sure that helps take some of the stress off your current situation.
Best of luck to you. Enjoy the summer and your learning curve.
Hope all is well in your new neighborhood.

I work in the manufacturing field and during the first 2 years you get 1 week vacation after 2 years, you get 3 weeks.
Everyone gets 7 holidays, 1 personal day, and 2 (count them both on the same hand!) sick days. HR says that these are "industry standards". OUCH! So much for a mental sick day!

Thanks Andrea. I knew that it was one of our most talented citizens, I should have guessed it was you!
We could use a page that has these over the top, ROFL, CLASSIC stories -- does anyone else remember KSMILE's Fed Ex story like it was told yesterday? On a bad day, I'd love to be able to click right to the page and laugh my anger away - just a thought.
Thanks again for the link. I know that we will use it well.

the old post about the toner bandits and how one of our wonderfully talented and comedic posters responded to their ploy.
What I remember (and that's not too much lately) is that the "innocent victim" on this side of the phone conversation was so "pleased" that the toner bandits called because she had a DOG stuck in the copier and that they needed someone to come out ASAP and help remove the dog. (Have I gotten any of this correct? I hope?) I was trying to retell the story but as you can see I don't remember many of the details.
Can anyone help? I've searched for "Scam" and "toner" and to no avail. Does anyone hear remember the thread?
Thanks - Laura
