Hi Everyone:

I've been scanning your posts for a while.  I've found them very interesting and informative.  I look forward to contributing and retrieving lots of information, encouragement and great conversation.  All you guys are great.  Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful group. P.S.  After reading the post regarding the book club, I'm totally hooked on the Left Behind series.

I had my Performance Review done yesterday and I am very pleased with it.  I have been at this job for only 9 months and am happy to be here.  I had a very rough start to the job though, I almost did not stay on the job.  On the third day of my new job my father passed away; he committed suicide.  It was a horrible time for me.  My new boss was so understanding and patient.  He was really great.  After nine months I'm beginning to feel more like myself.  He would like me to learn more to work on Powerpoint Presentations and Excel Worksheets.  Since he gave me such a great performance review I would like to give positive employee feedback on a professional level, not too personal.  I have to put that incident behind me.  Does anyone have a suggestions?  Thank you.

First, I would like to congratulate you on your pregnancy and the permanent job.  I agree with Phoenix55, if the boss gets upset with the news, then that would not be the person you would want to work with once the baby is born.  A lot of bosses I know were very happy for friends of mine who found out they were pregnant after a short time on the job.  Many had returned back to work after the birth of their child and had successful working relationships.  Don't dispair, if the job is meant to be, the boss would be very happy for you and will be sincerely willing to help you out. If not, you'll know by his/her actions after the wonderful news.  Good Luck!!

I agree with just asking.  You are a valued employee and they know that.  You just don't go asking for time off (entire week) every time something comes up.  Just ask, if you feel uncomfortable with the response, then say if you can take a few days instead.  Bossie will know how dedicated you are to your job by you offering not to take the entire week if need be.

My greatest pet peeve is when I go to make copies and the machine is not cleared from the previous user or better yet, there is not one single sheet of paper in it.  So annoying.  The other annoying thing is when messages are left on the voice mail and the speaker spoke so fast or in such a low voice that the message is difficult to undertand. It gets me so aggravated.

I felt I reached success when my boss asked me to read something and make necessary changes.  I felt he was confident in my work and felt what changes I imposed were of importance to him.  I liked that.  (May sound silly to someone else).  I have a degree, but chose not to pursue a career that would take too much of my personal time away from my family.  We as women have to be respected for what we chose is more important, our home and families or our careers.  It's tough but no matter what we do in our lives, we should all be respected as intelligent individuals.  Not for our titles but for the person we are.
