I was born in '72 and I, too, learned to type on an electric typewriter. However, being the youngest of five daughters, all of my sisters were jealous because I learned on a "ball" typewriter, as opposed to the regular kind with keys. My sisters claimed this enabled me to type much faster, but I never really saw much of a difference between the ball and the regular Smith-Corona electric that we used at home.
I do love my computer, but I do miss typewriters sometimes, especially when asked to fill in a form. It was just easier when you could type it and not have to worry about whether the other person could read your handwriting!
Oh, and how about the auto correct feature on the typewriter? You could hit backspace and it covered the mistake up with a substance similar to white out.
That was great, except when copies were involved!
