3  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Does your company offer flex time? on: January 11, 2002, 11:07:17 am
Hm, it seems that my working time is one of the best things I've ever had. Of course bossie want me to be here between a specific time (I'm a part-timer, working three days a week here), but when there is something need to be done, I'm here to unusual times, or work from home, or if I say "May I take the day tomorror off", or if I'd like to come later, or go earlier that isn't a problem for him. I like that

Best wishes

How wonderful to meet you all outside there.

Didface, I  think that this is a normal reaction, too. When my daddy died, years ago, I wasn't able to cry for months, and than, in a moment when I really didn't count with it, all the tears came out, and in some way it was a very good feeling.

Perhaps its crazy, but do you know what I just did? Some of you may remember to that wonderful admin-day-2001 presentation that was provided to TAA from Andrea, and I just watched it over and over again, praying that there will be found more surviviors (our radio station reported that there were found yet another young woman alive), and that there will be more peace in future for all people everywhere on the world.

We are still sitting here, watching TV, and we are watching the pictures over and over again, too, but I still can't believe it. All people here are shocked, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Its gonna be a long long night here...

Here in Europe, people are closer to each other, too. I can't remember that there was such a situation in the past.

People went to church, praying for freedom and peace, in offices they light candlels, they put down flowers in front of U.S. embassies and military bases.

Today, at 10:00 a.m (German time) we all call upon to take part to put down work for 5 minutes and hold on in silence. Busses and trains will stand still, radio stations should interrupt their programm etc.

We are all with you in these days.

Thank you for sharing, it's so sad to view those pictures, especially to watch the first one, and then the last one. Its hard to believe that it is the same view.

(Btw: In my sleeping room, at the wall, hangs my calender, and for every month there is a big photography on it, so guess what the picture for September is? It is the Manhatten Skyline, including the WTC; and it's so heartbreaking to watch it every mornig.)

Sending best wishes across the ocean

My experince is the same than Birgittas: most people of course are afraid of war, but nevertheless the willingnes to provide solidarity is very great. And so do I.

12  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / I lost my job on: May 02, 2001, 02:28:36 am
I'm so sorry to hear that sad story, and as the others already said, I'm sure that the company did a big mistake to letting you go.

There is a thing that I like to say about Germany: As you know, I'm German too, and on this point I'm sorry too that you make bad experiences with my country. Yes, a lot of Germans don't understand the "American Way of Live", they seem to be very intolerant. But please believe me, there are also a lot of people here who are cosmopolitan and accept others as they are.

Wishing you all the best for your future, and I' think you are a great admin, simply because you don't hide yourself.

Dear Liz,

I wish you all the best for the interview and hope you'll find a perfect job.

Sending all positive vibes over the Ocean, and waiting about some news from you

Took a while, but finally I read the two articles, and now I'm thinking about if there is the same situation in Germany (I think it is), and if I am a secretary in any wave.

I'm not sure, but my goal is to be an admin also in the future. Because I love my job, and I don't want to live like my bossie lives. Of course I don't want do make coffee all my life (right now I never had made a coffee for bossie, he is well trained, he makes coffee by himself   ), but I think in my job there are so many ways to go and so much chances that I don't have to be the manager.

But thats my decision, and of course I can understand well if other people have other goals in life. Otherwise our society will make no headway.

My next personal goal is to fight for that the admins job is not the "only typing some letters and make coffee"-thing. I want that everybody knows what we really do, and that there will be some respect for it. And for that I thank the first wave admins for all that they have reached, and hope that the admins with more experience share it with us "youngsters". And perhaps they could learn something from us, too.

Best wishes, and thanks to Andrea for the wonderful article
