1  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Re: DICTIONARY FOR WOMEN on: August 07, 2001, 01:09:28 pm
Have you seen that Circuit City commercial where the husband and wife are in front of the store, and the wife says, "Honey, we're just going to go in, get what we need, and leave, OK?" and the husband nods. They walk in, and his eyes get huge and he screams something like "Ooh! High Definition TV" and then he runs off through the store, knocking over a guy carrying boxes. Then the shot goes back to her, and she just closes her eyes. Then the voice over is "We know how you feel." and then it goes on to promote their online shopping website. It's pretty funny. This topic reminded me of that commercial.
2  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Cookies on: August 10, 2001, 08:22:54 am
There was an elderly man at home, upstairs, dying in bed.

He smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies baking. He wanted one last cookie before he died. He fell out of bed, crawled to the landing, rolled down the stairs and crawled into the kitchen where his wife was busily baking cookies.

With his last remaining strength he crawled to the table and was just barely able to lift his withered arm to the cookie sheet. As he grasped a warm, moist chocolate chip cookie, his favorite kind, his wife suddenly whacked his hand with a spatula.

Gasping for breath, he asked her, "Why did you do that?"

"Those are for the funeral."

My company, too, has an office in the Tampa area. It's a smaller office, but we also have on in Orlando, not sure how far away that is for you. I can pass along your resume, if you like. Email it to ssc1208@yahoo.com

10  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / IAAP Membership/CPS Rating -- Worth It? on: March 03, 2001, 11:15:19 pm
I know that we have some CPS's here on the board and I was wondering what people's opinion on whether or not a CPS rating or an IAAP membership would be worth the time, effort, and money. I don't want to offend those who are members or CPS's, I just wanted to know what your opinion is.

Thanks,

Sabrina

I thought lunch would have been nice too, but I'm in the northern suburbs, and taking a couple of hours out of my day just couldn't happen.

Maybe we should start a Yahoo Club or something for Chicago Admins.
12  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Welcome to Chi-town! on: May 03, 2001, 09:06:44 pm
Hi Kar! I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago, been here all my life. My company has their headquarters in a northern suburb about 30 miles north of Chicago. We also have a smaller office downtown. If you're interested, I'd be happy to pass along your resume.

As for transportation, there are trains (Metra) that run north from the city into the suburbs and our firm offers a free shuttle from the train to the office. Also, there's a "Subscription Bus Service" from the Lincoln Park area up to the office. Basically it's a public bus that runs from Lincoln Park directly to the company.

There's also CTA trains/busses in the city for the downtown office. This is a much smaller office, but I just checked our postings, and we have three Admin positions open at the Chicago office.

Anyway, if you'd like me to pass on your resume, I'd be more than happy to. Just send it to ssc1208@yahoo.com

13  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Gregg Reference Manual on: May 18, 2001, 11:36:35 am
Checking The Gregg Reference Manual.. it says that most of us are correct...

ensure means "to make certain"

insure means "to protect against loss"

assure means "to give someone confidence

I don't know about your office, but here Gregg's is gospel.
14  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Outing on: May 18, 2001, 03:50:48 pm
Well, a few of you asked to let you know what we ended up doing. We're going bowling! All that work for not. Oh well. Actually, it's bowling and then dinner at Maggiano's. So as soon as we decide on a day, I'll have to make a reservation for that, because it's a pretty popular restaurant. Anyway, that's what was decided.
15  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Ideas for Outing on: May 09, 2001, 09:02:05 am
Hi all. I'm sure all of you have been involved in this sort of thing before. Our group is planning an event type outing to celebrate all we've accomplished over the last year. We've solicited everyone in the group for ideas, but I thought I'd check here too.

The group is less than 20 people and most of us are in our 20s or early 30s. Our budget is only $20-$25 a person. Suggestions thus far have been Gameworks (which is kind of like a Chuck E. Cheese for adults with alcohol, similar to Dave N Busters), The Renaissance Faire, and Whirlyball (think polo meets bumper cars). Do you guys have suggestions? Maybe this topic will benefit others looking for similar info.

Oh, and we're in the Chicago area, if that helps anyone.
