General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Newsletter Help

Hi aprilmcan,
I edit our local IAAP chapter newsletter and I have to agree with the previous poster. Be careful with comic strips...they are very picky about those. Other things, you can usually use if you site the author and publication. It isn't really difficult to find things. I believe there are probably "filler" websites around that have information you can put in your newsletter. I usually have to cut some things out to keep ours down to 14 pages! Of course, it includes lots of IAAP news and stuff but I always have an overabundance of information for the newsletter.
Take care and good luck.

Actually, I was FIRED from my last job on November 2...have kind of stayed away from this board for a while...just too depressed. But, things are looking up! I found my next job through an ad in the newspaper and began working Dec 10 part time until after Jan 1. It is with an advertising firm in town that has been in business for 52 years....I am loving it! I think I have found my niche after making the mistake of leaving academics almost two years ago.
Anyway, good luck to all who are looking...the right job is out there!

I'm adding my congrats! I am probably one of the biggest anti-Yankees fans around and anyone that beats them is tops in my book. Personally, I'm an Atlanta Braves fan...hated that the D'backs knocked us out of the series but realize that the D'backs were probably the only team that could beat the Yankees, particularly because of the great pitching of Schilling and Johnson. Great games...all of them...but, the Braves will be back!

Well, I was terminated on Friday. I've been off the board for a while because I couldn't use it at work and my computer at home has been having problems which I have remedied. Anyway, just need some prayers and support as I search for a new position. Really difficult at this time of the year and as sole breadwinner for myself and my elderly mother. Please, think of me.

Don't know if this has ever been posted but I keep a copy taped next to my monitor. It keeps me focused...and makes me laugh.
1. You - Off my planet.
2. Not the brightest crayon in the box now, are we?
3. Well, this day was a total waste of makeup.
4. Errors have been made...others will be blamed.
5. I'm not crazy, I've just been in a very bad mood for 30 years.
6. Allow me to introduce myselves.
7. Sarcasm is just one more service we offer.
8. Whatever kind of look you were going for, you missed.
9. I'm just working here until a good fast-food job opens up.
10. I'm trying to imagine you with a personality.
11. Stress is when you wake up screaming and you realize you weren't asleep.
12. I can't remember if I'm the good twin or the evil one.
13. How many times do I have to flush before you go away?\
14. I just want revenge? Is that so wrong?
15. You say I'm a witch like it's a bad thing.
16. Can I trade this job for what's behind door #2?
17. Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?
18. Chaos, panic, and disorder...my work here is done.
19. Earth is full...go home.
20. Is it time for your medication or mine?
21. How do I set a laser printer to stun?
22. I'm not tense, just terribly, terribly alert.

10. "They told me at the blood bank this might happen."
9. "This is just a 15 minute power-nap like they raved about in that time management course you sent me to."
8. "Whew! Guess I left the top off the White-Out. You probably got here just in time!
7. "I wasn't sleeping! I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm."
6. "I was testing my keyboard for drool resistance."
5. "I was doing a highly specific Yoga exercise to relieve work-related stress. Are you discriminatory toward people who practice Yoga?"
4. "Why did you interrupt me? I had almost figured out a solution to our biggest problem."
3. "The coffee machine is broken..."
2. " Someone must've put decaf in the wrong pot..."
And the #1 best thing to say if you get caught sleeping at your desk...

Winkie,
I have this hanging on my bulletin board above my desk...superimposed over a picture of a baby with angel wings!
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the this I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

General Discussion / Topical Climates / Idaho child neglect
|

Time for a new thread but very topical. I was watching the Today Show this morning while getting ready for work and saw the video that was evidently shown to the court in the case of child neglect in Idaho. I was appalled. No, it is not a crime to be poor but I do believe it is a crime to live in squalor with children. You can be poor but you can also be clean. Maggots and mice roamed the home freely...the children chose to sleep in tents outside in the freezing Idaho weather rather than share their house with vermin. This situation is tragic

I just feel so sorry for the children...to have their lives taken at such a young age, before they have had a chance to live. I just wish that this mother had thought to call someone, too, when she was at the end of her rope and ask for help. We must remember that we are not alone in the world, there is someone out there that can help us...we just have to reach out before it is too late.

Back to Texas again...Houston, this time. Do any of you really feel any sympathy for the woman who drowned her 5 children? Do you feel that Post Partum (sp) Depression can be used as an excuse? I am just so shocked at this event that I can't seem to get past my own emotions. As far as I'm concerned, it's murder and there is no excuse.

Well said, Disillusioned. I've felt the same way and hope that this tragedy (being on our shores and involving many more causulties) will be an eye opener and that we will again wave our flags and appreciate our military and what this country stands for and not take so much for granted.
When the bombings happened in Lebanon and, more recently, to the U.S. Cole, I just don't think that the American people were as concerned because it didn't happen here or to them. Sure, they may have been angry but not the out-pouring that has happened the past two weeks. But isn't it strange how this attach seemed to touch everyone. Everywhere you turn, you hear about someone who knew someone who knew someone... In my own church family, one of the ladies who sings in the choir with me...her oldest daughter is a flight attendant and is usually on the Boston to LA run...she switched off with a close friend because it was her birthday and one of her brothers was going to be in town...she lost a whole crew of friends and still has trouble sleeping because she feels guilty.
Anyway, what I guess I am trying to say is that I hope that this spurt of patriotism isn't short-lived but sustaining throughout the country for ever and ever, Amen.

After attending a seminar by Nan DeMars and reading her book, "You want me to do what?", I understand that you put yourself first, your company second, and your boss last. If it goes against what you think is right, tell your boss "I'm not comfortable with that" and explain why. You have to be true to yourself. If it is against company policy, again use the same line and explain why. If he/she continues to insist, go to his/her supervisor. If your boss is the main boss, look for another job. Don't compromise your ethics for any job.
Just my two cents worth...luckily, I have never been in this position and hope that I never will be.
