1  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Job Description vs. actual work on: August 10, 2007, 03:05:41 pm
Mine is about 25% accurate.  The other 75% is not covered - as I do special projects

2  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: What do you do in the office for Christmas/Holidays? on: November 30, 2006, 03:02:29 pm
We have either office dinners or lunches and the organisation contributes £15 to everyone attending.

As for the office itself - we do put up decorations (though some of them are very tired for over use!)

3  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: When you arrive to work... on: October 19, 2005, 01:52:45 pm
Coffee and water mostly.  I work in an office where there are no tea breaks as such and people are constantly making rounds and rounds of drinks. Most of the time when I get in, before sitting down someone pops out of nowhere with a tray and it is like that for the rest of the day!

5  General Discussion / Sound Off! / Re: Week of May 2nd: Are you a morning person? on: May 03, 2005, 11:36:15 am
Am definitely a later in the day developer.  Hate mornings with a passion - am in my element at 23.30 hrs - trying to solve the world's problems then (or is it the huge amounts of coffee that I keep drinking kicking in at that time)

There is also a very good reason why YOU work exclusively for him and not them - you are a professional and as such - he does recognise this.  As mentioned above - ignore them - don't sink to their level

Hi everyone - it has been a while!!!

I agree with all the above sentiments raised - I think being professional about the relationship and able to separate the two lives is very important.  Not only for you as a couple but for those people you work with.

A personal view - I would not want to work with my other half in the same office let alone in the building!

8  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: Do you take leave? on: May 27, 2004, 03:57:08 pm
In the UK too.

I get 28 days and are allowed to carry over 5 days maximum.  If it is 6 - 10 days you need to carry over - you have to put a case to your Departmental Head with an indication as to when you intend to take the leave.

9  General Discussion / Admins 4 Admins / Re: What hours do you work on: May 27, 2004, 11:16:26 am
Contracted to work Monday to Friday - 35 hours per week on a flexi system, with core hours of 10 am - 4 pm.  You can start at 8.00 am til 7.00 pm.  Lunch you can take from 30 minutes to 2 hours.  In a 4 week period you are allowed to carry over equivalent of 21 hours (3 days) which you can then take with agreement with your line manager.  This does not affect your annual leave entiltement and don't work on public holidays. For Christmas we close at 2.00 pm Christmas eve or last working day before - then we open first working day after New Year.  These extra days aren't again part of annual leave!

10  General Discussion / The Humour Zone / Employee Assessment on: May 08, 2003, 03:05:46 pm
Saw this in a saturday newspaper magazine!

1   Bob Smith, my assistant programmer, can always be found

2   hard at work at his desk.  He works independently, without

3   wasting company time talking to colleagues.  Bob never

4   thinks twice about assisting fellow employees, and always

5   finishes given assignments on time.  Often he takes extended

6   measures to complete his work, sometimes skipping coffee

7   breaks.  Bob is a dedicated individual who has absolutely no

8   vanity in spite of high accomplishments and profound

9   knowledge in his field.  I firmly believe that Bob can be

10   classed as an asset employee, the type which cannot be

11   dispensed with.  Consequently, I recommend that Bob be

12   promoted to executive management, and a proposal will be

13   executed as soon as possible.

Addendum:  The idiot was standing over my shoulder while I wrote the report sent to you earlier today.  Kindly re-read only odd-numbered lines

LOL ! ! ! - your #10 suggestion reminded me of an article which appeared in The Times Creme a few years back regarding this gentleman in France who managed to take time off work for five years by making his bosses think he was simply at another office (he apparently covered a few office bases in Cannes).  One day his bosses got wind of his scam, waited at each office to see if he turned up.  He didnot!

Thanks for sharing!

I used to use 'Ladies and Gentleman' and was told that is was 'politically incorrect' (there is your race equality and diversity for you).  Now I use 'Dear All' (mostly for an external mix group).  Internally, especially within my immediate department (about 50 people in total) I use Folks! (someone is still to correct me on this one)

Seriously to be on the safe side I would use 'Dear All'

Flexi time here means starting at 8.00 am until 6.30 pm.  Core hours are 10.00 am  til 4.00 pm and you are allowed to be 21 hours in credit over a four week period.

LOL

The Getaway - quite resourceful - at least he was prepared to work for the money
Are we communicating - reminded me of a Brit sitcom - "Some Mothers do have them"

Thanks for sharing

Apparently the two guys 'caught' has been handed over to the immigration department because of their questionnable status - so it looks like it is back to the drawing board.

Y'all be careful until this/these person(s) is caught
