Not tons, but I did get a card from the staff and a hanging planter of pansies.  My boss gave me some chocolates and said he'd take me to lunch next week.  We'll see if he remembers!

Hope everyone has a very happy Administrative Professionals Week, and that your co-workers and execs show you how much you are appreciated!

Yes, I'm sure she meant no harm, but I'm still glad I pointed it out to her how it made me feel, and how it sounded.  Otherwise, she'd keep doing it without realizing that to me and others who overheard it, it sounded disrespectful.  She apologized, so we'll see if she stops the behavior.  I really don't want to appear to be the "old crow," and hope she realizes I still appreciate fun, but not at my own expense.  Guess my last milestone birthday empowered me with the knowledge that I'd better speak up for myself!  I did speak to her in private and in person...e-mails can be misconstrued and forwarded to anyone, and the phone impersonable.  I didn't want to hurt her feelings, just wanted her to stop with the remarks.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced condescending comments from younger staff members.  There is one particular staff member in our unit who is around 24, who always greets me with a phrase such as "oh, here comes the mail queen" or an e-mail that begins, "To the cheque goddess."  Her lack of respect has really bothered me, considering I'm just about old enough to be her mother, and finally today, after she made another comment, I pulled her aside and very nicely asked her not to call me those things anymore, that they sounded condescending and disrespectful, and that I expect to be treated with more respect than that.  She looked totally bewildered...she probably thought she was being funny, and didn't mean any offense.  I'm wondering if this is a generational issue...I talked to my boss about it, and he said that she has said things like that to him as well, and then he reminds her that he does her evaluations.  Although I doubt he was ever called the mail queen!
