Well, I have one. It carries a laptop and has several other compartments for all the stuff you might carry. (I'm not sure about lubnch though) Mine was given to me by one of the directors, who got it in a conference. I think it was given to every participant. Why not try and see if there is one lying around the office, that nobody uses?

After reading some of the posts, my question is: A) If your work or attitude is not ok, why did they promote you? Seems strange to me that they promote a person whose performance is not ok. B) Could this be the work of a jealous co-worker? Someone who is not happy with your promotion? C) It can get lonely on top. People you work with are not necessarily your friends, although they can pretend to be. Hope this bad time goes away soon. S Edited by smssilva on 14/10/05 03:28 PM.

There is a point there, although to me it sounds like a really bad thing to wish for.
It sounds like an articule I read of a southern town that refuse to receive Katrina refugees (90% black in a 90 % white community). They said although they understood their drama, they felt they could not help them.

In my country jobs are up to a point where they ask graduates for every position. A private school (privatly owned not a state school) has a degree in Executive secretary for over 20 years and is still today very much in demand. I went to a public school (State school), because private fees are very high.
You are right that is up to us to prove that we are a key asset on an organisation. I've spent months just doing "normal tasks" like sorting mail, e-mails and phone calls and typing letters. Almost got bored to death. I've asked different tasks (in addition to the old ones) and now I feel that I really make a difference and feel satisfaction in my job. In the end it is was really matters, enjoying what we do...

Hi,
I know exactly what you mean. Some months ago I was in the same position. My problem was resolved when I took the initiative to approach on of the directors working for my boss, who is the Group Director, and asked him if I could help him, since I had the time. Little by little he began given me tasks and now I am ok. Don't know if you can do the same. But its so frustrating having nothing to do that even browsing the internet can become a bore. Can you take this time to take some course or update your skills?
Good luck, Sandra

As in Germany we have different symbols like Ç and ~and ^ for example. We have also `and ´ to help spelling thw words right and knowing which sylable to accentuate.
I saw a chinese man typing the other day in MSN. All his symbols were chinese ones...couldn't figure out which key was which.

That was not what iImeant...on the contrary. You problably did not see the movie. There is a scene in it that affected me. Is one of the big and very expensive charity dinners, with enough food to feed hundreads for a month, that was invaded by a doctor claiming that this particular charity was taken away the support to Ethiopia because of political reasons and little children were dying of starvation while they were wasting food and calling it charity. It got me thinking about it.
What you are refering to I would call it coersion...

That was a lovely gesture from your son!
Can you tell them that because you support other charities you feel that your commitment for this one would not be 100% and that you were not able to give your best shot? Another person would be a better choice! In this company the CEO does not get envolved...charity ininiatives are mainly from employees and are usually a box to collect donations in food, clothes or toys. Never money.

I also agree that this is a personal matter. We have a right to choose which charity we suport. Smallfry has a point, I prefer to support local charities, were i can see how my money is being used. Unfortunately working for a charity organization does not make people honest as we are realising with the "Food for oil" program from ONU. In my country we have a saying...Charity begins at home.

All the legal secretaries I know have one complaint in common: All lawyers think they are superhumans (God first, lawyers second) and can't make no mistake.
They don't allow any informal treatment, like a first name basis. When the secretaries produce documents, letters or court documents, they always include big " expensive" words, ( the ones used only in legal area, unknown to the rest).
Also be prepared to work under pressure, because court deadlines must be met, and big cases almost always mean extra hours.
Good luck on your new job!
