Susan, if the monitor is broken (not the PC) then nothing you can do will be able to help you. I really suggest that you borrow a monitor from somewhere, plug it in and see if you can see anything. If you can't see anything then you have a PC problem, but if the driver settings were wrong you would normally see your BIOS screen before it went into Windows.
