dettu, sorry about your situation (although glad you are out of that ergonomically bad environment).  Hope things turn around for you quickly.

gee - I know how it feels to be rejected by e-mail.  Same thing happened to me a few years ago.  It was an internal job I applied for that I wanted very badly and felt I had an excellent chance of getting.  There I am sitting in my office with my other coworkers, and I get the e-mail telling me they hired someone else.  What a blow - and I couldn't do anything but sit there and act like nothing was wrong because my co-workers didn't know I had applied for the job.  It was horrible.  I truly felt as if they just didn't care for my feelings at all.  It should have been done in a letter that was sent to my home.
