Jess
if you're referring to those sites where you bid for work and generally companies in the Asian countries get them, waste of time! I was registered with one for a while but de-registered after several bids came to nothing. Or people contact you and want it for way less than you bid simply because they got a bid from abroad that was peanuts.
You pay peanuts, you get monkeys - it really is true.
Person I referred to in my PM last night charges a lot to her clients and they pay it and are grateful for the high quality work they get back.
Somebody once wanted me to do their dissertation in the week running up to Christmas. It was messily handwritten and I quoted a fairly high rate (reasonable, but high). When he asked me why it was so much more than my competitors, I asked him why he had come to me. I was the only person who was confident they could complete it in the timescale. I told him I was the best. I did the thesis (very interesting, all about films) in the timescale and he paid up without a murmur, agreeing that I was indeed the best.
So stick at it. People are prepared to pay for quality, it sometimes just takes a little longer to persuade them of this fact. Let them try the cheaper versions and if they have a big job and it all goes pear shaped, prepare for them to come running to you!
