Ok, HR and Safety Gurus.....

What Federal agency in the US governs and watches over Work-related injuries and worker's comp rights?

Once again, hubby has injured himself at work (he works in a Rent-A-Center store). He strained his groin last Wednesday. After what seemed like pulling teeth, he was able to go to the doctor (after 5 hrs of agonizing pain). He was put on light duty... not to lift anything more than 10lbs. and told to go back to see the Doc today (Monday).

Well, just as expected.... a staff member called in sick. Bossie put my hubby on the truck doing deliveries... despite the doctor's orders. Then, when he tried to leave to go to the clinic for his re-check, he was told to do it Tuesday AM before he was scheduled to work at 9am. This means he'll be off the clock. Frankly, I don't care about that... but HE'S DELIVERING FURNITURE for PETES SAKE! Hubby can't say no.... for fear he'll lose his job.

Who's big brother for this situation?

That would be OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration).  They handle the worker's comp cases and can assist with worker's comp rights.  Here is the link to their web site:

http://www.osha-slc.gov/index.html

So sorry to learn your husband got hurt!

Please tell him to take care of himself!  He needs to watch out for #1 - And remember - your husband is "protected" under OSHA so that means any harrassment from bossie can get bossie into lots of trouble with the Feds.

Be sure to get something in writing from the doctor about husband on light duty.  Tell doctor that bossie is being a weenie and ask doctor to give you some advice on how to handle, too.  Good luck!!  Please let us know how things turn out.

In general, state standards and regulations are more stringent than those of federal standards.  I would check with your state's department of labor division on specifics regarding your husband's rights.  However, he should fill out an OSHA form and get that all in writing in case down the road, he needs to fall back on that.

Definitely check out your state's (FL?) dept of labor information.  In Georgia, DOL oversees worker's comp.  Maybe they can give you some good ideas on what to do in this situation.

Due to a different situation, I've been looking into GA's stuff on this, and our DOL is VERY stringent on work comp stuff, and any employer reported doing what your hubby's bossie is doing would be in deep doodoo.
