Hi all - am at a bit of a loose end...
...I work for a College in the UK and next week we're hoping to get the students involved in activities to promote diversity. Having a few problems thinking of activities that might achieve this!
One idea that we do have is swapping gender roles - we do a lot of vocational courses and thought it might be fun to encourage some of our male students to experience courses typically taken by females and vice versa (i.e. get the girls involved in construction/engineering activities and the guys in beauty therapy/nail technician activities etc.)
Would be grateful to hear any suggestion that you may have.
Many thanks

I find it more and more strange that PA's/Admins are asked to come up with these ideas. Usually senior management or first line managers who are the ones driving these courses are the ones that contribute to this. Am interested to hear other's opinions on this.
The only suggestion I can think of (apart from the one you suggested) is, role-playing based on different cultures eg. different backgrounds, different religions, countries etc. Are the same opportunities given to students in other parts of the world eg. are females allowed to do construction/engineering?

Hi gee!
Good suggestion - will put that forward!
This isn't a typical part of my Job Description - I'm on the Public Relations and Communications Committee for the Campus so am often tasked with such things.
Cheers

I'm afraid I can't help with the diversity stuff but wanted to say I agree Gee4 about odd requests - one of my pet hates is being asked to come up with imaginative posters / publicity material. Yes - I can use the IT programmes to produce stuff because I am trained in the IT. It does not mean however that I am a designer and have the ideas to begin with about publicity.
