My boss asked me to find out product that will hook up to the phone allowing him to record the conversation.  Then after he's done then he wants to pass it on to me so I can type up the conversation.

I remember seeing this before (it had headphones, stop, play button) but I don't remember what it is called.  Either way, can that same machine be hooked up to the phone?  HELP!!  I need to have something to him by the end of day.  And can someone direct me of what I should ask for if I need to call a store?  What stores should I call?  It's friday I shouldn't have this stress! Thanks!

I think what you are after is a dictaphone?  Try a google.com search.

A few years back, I purchased from the local Radio Shack a connection device where the phone line plugged into it then it plugged into the phone.   It has an outlet that can plug into to a recorder, as a microphone would connect to it.

It's similar to an in / out coupler that lengthens a phone line using multiple cords.

http://www.epanorama.net/documents/telecom/telerecord.html[/url has something that sounds like the thing Copyboy is talking about.

You might like to review
this page from the Federal Communications Commission.

I also found this paragraph on the NACAA website.

A1998 law review on criminal eavesdropping statutes surveyed the state and federal laws and found that 36 states[1] permit one party to a telephone conversation to tape record it without the other party’s consent.[2] Usually in states in which all parties’ consent is required the consumer may advise that the call is being recorded in order to reduce the abuse or obtain the consent necessary to avoid criminal penalties and create admissible evidence.

You might like to check your State laws.

Lots of companies state at the beginning of your call that it might be recorded, normally for training purposes, but I think I'd be pretty cross if someone was recording me without asking my permission.

Good point.  Most States have laws regarding taped conversations.  That lady who taped her conversations with Monica L. is now facing huge criminal and civil charges because of what she did.

It is a dictaphone that you're after; it seems to be our lifeline at times here.  I have so many conference calls, that the dictaphone is my only way to keep the minutes straight for the meeting.  They're right; please keep in mind (and gently mention this to Bossie) that there are laws and FCC Guidelines protecting privacy of conversations on the phone; "reasonable privacy" can't be violated in this case, because "reasonable privacy" is what you have on a traditional phone.  Cellphones, etc. obviously are a different case altogether.
I've worked in military intelligence and we were taught  that such monitoring/recording could not be performed without the expressed consent of everyone involved.  The only exception was in criminal investigations, where a court order was needed, or if the surveillance is/was being done by a PI.   Way off the subject, but interesting to know, nonetheless.
Hope you found what Bossie was looking for... no one needs that kind of stress on a Friday!!!
