Ok guys,

I know that we have talked about this before, but I never really thought it could happen until 5 minutes ago.  I received a call asking for the model number of my copier, and THANKS TO TAA, I knew what they were up to and saved my company a head ache.  It was very gratifying to say, "NO GOODBYE".  Thanks again for the heads up!!!!!

Ah, Ellen, isn't it gratifying to   be aware of these things . . . and then when they happen to you to   actually catch the company off guard?!

Congrats to you!  Well done!

Elleny, good for you!  Next time, ask them what company they are from?  They usually hang up with that.  If not, no matter WHAT company they say they're from, tell them, "that's not my company" and hang up on them.  Good job!

So Ellen...

Did you use Andrea's "Poodle in the Copier" approach?

I didn't even think to try the poodle thing until after I had hung up.  I almost wished they had called back so I could use it. (wicked grin).  Oh well.

OK, if I remember correctly, Andrea pretended that their was a poodle stuck in the copier.  She acted like she was so happy to hear from them, and could they please help her get the dog out of the machine.  Keep in mind the whole time she was making puppy cries.  I'll see if I can find the post.  I really laughed at that one.

I think it is back in the first few pages of this board, or it was at OC.  I can't remember.  It's been way too long since I've had to find it.

Okay, okay, here's my personal way of dealing with copierscam, people it goes like this:

Hello?

"uhhh Hi there, I just need to get the model number off your copier so that we can get you the new pricing on toner"

"OH THANK GOD You've called, do you have the schematics on the copier?"

"uhhh schematics?"

{make faint dog sounding whining noises in the background muffle the phone so they sound possibly realistic}

"Why yes, Mr.{insert name of Boss} Prize Teacup poodle has crawled into the drum and we can't get her out! Please you have to help us!"

{make pathetic whimpering noises, holding the phone away from your face as you do so}

They usually hang up by this time, but if you have one who's REALLY persistant it can go like this:

{more faint whimpering noises}

"can you send someone over right away? Oh Dear LORD, please hurry! she's... Oh I think she's hurt in there!"

"uh sure, if you'll just give me the model number"

"NO  Dave Don't turn on the copier DAVE! NOOOOOOOOOOO"

{more pathetic barking/whimpering noises}

By now they've hung up, though I did have one selfless soul honestly try to help the poor little pooch out by telling me to unplug the copier....
