This has been one heck of a month for me. Earlier this month I was installed as the division president for my IAAP division. Yesterday I received the news that I passed the CAP-OM exam (background: I had taken the Certified Professional Secretary / Certified Administrative Professional exams back in 1997 and 2002, but had sadly due to a lot of things that are now irrelevant, let them lapse a few years ago, so I re-sat for both tests in May). Hurray! Next week I will give my final speech in Toastmasters to achieve my Advanced Communicator Silver designation, which it just so happens will allow my club (only three years old) to achieve President's Distinguished Club status (the top level award in the club award programs). And I received further good news this morning, so this has just been a stellar banner month for me. Woo hoo!!! Time to sit back and reflect on my goals for the next twelve months.

Congrats MsMarieh!!! You've definitely been busy this month! makes me feel like I've done nothing, which of course is untrue... sort of.... kind of.... well anyway... That is just too awesome and congrats on the presidency, the passed exams, and the designation with Toastmasters! What can you possibly come up with for the next 12 months?

Oh, I've always got a list going and I'm usually working on multiple goals simultaneously!!!
During the next three months, I'll complete my Microsoft Office 2010 certifications, which I had never gotten around to doing.
Before the end of this year, I'll sit for my Registered Parliamentarian exam again (and this time I *WILL* pass all parts!).
During the next twelve months, I'll complete my Advanced Communicator Gold designation (which requires achieving Advanced Communicator Silver - which I get next week, completing two advanced manuals of 5 speeches each, mentoring a new member through their first three speeches, and leading some type of Success/communication or Success/leadership workshop - which is anywhere from 1 to 8 hours of teaching, depending on which one I choose).
There's always something to check off on my goals list.
Plus I'll have a ton of goals related to my division presidency.

MsMarieh, next to you I am quite honestly a slacker!!!! I'm envious of your list of achievements and goals, but am satisfied with mine none-the-less. My goals for the next 3 months.... Get kids prepared to return to school, back to school, and off to a running start (unlike last year!). Complete my Scouter's training, so I'm ready in September to lead the Wolf den in Cub Scouts and hopefully take on the Training Coordinator role for the Pack. Get my house back in order, organized, and a housekeeper hired. Past 3 months... no real plans. Unable to really plan past 3 months out, because who knows what will crop up for each of my boys as we start the new school year, they decide what sports I have to juggle into our schedule, what hobbies they may take up, and all the while trying to maintain my sanity!!! None of my goals are work related, because I'm happy in my position and content to ride along in it for a while. Since I'm the trainer, staying on top of the rules and regulations is part of my job and so not anything to set a goal for. Just want to keep my job for another year. You really are an inspiration to me, and I'm sure to other Admins out here reading your post, to show what can be attained and strived for if they only desire it, work towards it, and hopefully have a supportive organization (when needed). I'll look forward to hearing how you do on the next 6 months worth of goals... When I grow up, i wanna be just like you!!!

Countrigal, your goals sound quite impressive to me! Raising your children properly is the number one thing any individual can do for the good of our society. I was never blessed with children, so this is my way of filling my time. I wouldn't want anyone to feel like a slacker just because they have different goals or are at a different place in their life right now. Everyone needs to decide for themself what will make them happy. In my particular case, I can't stand getting stagnant at work. The boredom drives me insane and I always want to be learning new things. That's my particular soapbox and passion.

Re-visiting this thread as after reading what maria had achieved, I said it made me want to shake myself up and get moving on my goals for the future.
However, having sat down with a pen and paper ready to do a list, I found myself with a mind block. I know I want to achieve more than I have so far at work, would like to stress that I like my job, but want to improve in the hope that in the future, I would be able to, for example, earn more, when the time comes to move on.
There is also things I want to improve in my life outside work, make more time to meet up with friends, for example.
Can anyone advise how to expand on goals? To say the two examples above make sense but they are quite broad, I guess I need to break them down into small steps but am struggling as to how. I think I find it quite daunting as time is short for me to not only plan but also to carry out my plans. Like most people I work all day and am often so tired when I get home, to use my brain even more seems impossible.
Any help you can give would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'll start a new thread on the topic officepa. It's a good question to ask and deserves its own thread.

Belated congrats MsMarie.
My new goal is to give back a bit more in my local community. I've just taken on the role of volunteer press/marketing person at local swim club which will be a start.
