for me, probably no set time period, but when something happens and I think I should add it to my CV, then I tend to update it and tinker with it then.  probably last updated earlier this year after our Royal visit and the work I'd put into that.

Just updated my CV last week (not done this for 8 months) as I had a 'phone call out of the blue from an agency saying that they'd like to put me forward for a role they thought I would be very suitable for and they wanted to submit my details to .... I've not heard any more, so assuming nothing coming my way, although will do follow up call to agency.  Hey, nothing ventured, nothing gained.  it was worth trying out for as it was more monies and more interesting tasks / daily stimulation than I'm doing now plus making more use of my skillset than I do at the moment.

I voted quarterly, but probably a bit more often than that.  When I'm browsing the classified I might tweak for a particular ad.  Or if I happen to see a resume online or through work that has something worth plagiarizing, I will update.  As I see it our resumes have to be "living documents" always fluid.  My job evolves so should my resume.

I only update mine when going for a new job, since I'm pretty much set in my career/position and only ever have to apply for a promotion desired in my career path... and then the CV has to be written towards that particular job posting.  Government job means less worry about changing jobs, so less updating of CV.

This is my approach as well.  I don't want to be in the position of seeing an opening somewhere and losing time in applying because I have to completely overhaul an old resume.

In the past only when looking for a new job but from now on, will try to look at on a regular basis or, if not that, then start a page in my notebook headed "things I must put on CV to keep it up to date".

I can see the benefits of revisiting it regularly especially if you see something you want to apply for out of the blue, you have it all ready.  Things happen that you easily forget but perhaps should be included.

Good thread.
