I know it's January, post-Christmas, and the weather isn't brilliant, but is anyone else feeling "bleah" (important medical condition) as well? My "get up and go" seems to have Got Up and Gone Away! And seems to show no sign of wishing to return.
I'm trying all sorts of things to cheer myself up and I'm usually bright-eyed and bushy-tailed but they're not working and even my DH has noticed. He's threatening to leave me and run away with the woman he married. LOL.
I may just go back to bed and leave a note on the bed-room door asking someone to wake me up when it's Spring.

Will I tend to hibernate during the winter, apart from coming to work that is. I usually try and keep myself occupied while indoors but do venture out if visiting friends. I love catching up on movies I haven't seen. I was invited out one night last week to see a friend for dinner and a catch up. There must have been a blue moon in the sky that night although her house is always warm as toast! The one thing I love at this time of year is a pamper treat. I treated myself to a hot stone massage last January and it was fab-u-lous! Why not invite friends round for dinner/take-away or organise a girlie night. This is a great time of year when you can get together and have a catch up. Or what about a movie night. Invite some friends over and ply them with popcorn n ice-cream. A lot of my friends have kids so inviting them out always requires a babysitter and can be expensive. Inviting friends round is a great way of getting together without the buzz of a noisy bar.

Oh, I hear you. I'm part of the "go to work in the dark and come home in the dark" club right now and it definitely has an effect! Add to that the fact that this is the boring/tedious part of the year for me (see my posting in the "Are you Bored" thread) and its an awful combination!
Hubby and I actually leave our (artificial) Christmas tree up and lit through most of January for this very reason. The neighbors think we're crazy, but I think it helps to come home after a long, dark day and have this brightly lit, colorful, shimmering thing in the house. We joke that it takes the place of the fireplace we don't have.

I have to be especially careful this time of year. I have a history of chronic mild depression and this time of year is chalk full of bad memories for me - February is the worst as that is the month I met my ex, the month our marriage ended, the month I found out a boyfriend I was head of heels for had gotten back with his ex and many, many more bad memories. I honestly can't think of anything positive that has happened in my life in the first three months of any given year. On top of that, add often miserable cold, dreary weather, pressures at work and pressures at home. I've decided that this year I'm going make some good memories for the first quarter. When bossie told us we may be directed to take off President's Day next month (not one of our paid holidays) to help cut costs since its a day off for the client, I decided to to go ahead and put in to have it as a vacation day whether we're "forced" or not and planned a day shopping at the outlet mall in Williamsburg with my daughter. I am not going to let the Winter Blah's get to me and intend to spend a lot of time on me when I feel them coming on. One of my favorite things to do is spend a day on the couch having a movie or TV series marathon. Nothing but junk food, being lazy and keeping what's outside my front door far, far away for several hours. Michelle

I have an instant cure - sort of. Retail therapy combined with pain aversion! The idea s to go out and buy yourself a completely impractical pair of shoes to wear at work (don't even think about travelling to/from work in them!) and then 'suffer in not so quiet' as people admire the new shoes (which should also give you the repeat feel good factor as when you bought the shoes in the first place) and detract from some of the worst effects of the 'bleah' infection. I am doing it right now with a ridiculous pair of 3 inch heels (only £16.50!) with patent leather toes and heels! So far so good Edited by jackie on 13/01/09 01:21 PM.

I fought the blues a few weeks ago during the holidays. Try some positive self talk and reading something cheery. I think it is a combination of the weather, the let down of the holidays festivities ending and looking at your bank account after all that shopping. (Mine is not so much the latter, since we really did not spend this year). Watch some good funny movies and pamper yourself.
