Do you eat at your desk? Take a walk? Eat out? Bring your own lunch? What do you do at lunch?

If it is good weather and the ground dry I go outside with the Group and we picnic ... these are my favourite lunches ... if it is not so good weather but still dry I will go and sit out with a book (the Group go to the cafe if it is too cold for their delicate constitutions - anyone would think we were located inside the Arctic Circle) If it is raining I stay in and read - I am sat at my desk but turned away from it. Anyone who disturbs me for work stuff gets the look and hastily disappears All of that applies Mon and Wed-Fri BUT on Tuesdays A neighbouring secretary and I take a walk and put the world to rights. Hi - depends on weather. At the moment it is rainy and windy so no fun sitting outside on the grass which is the most popular - always best to go with someone tho otherwise you look like billy no mates !! Otherwise - sit in car in car park overlooking those that brave the weather to sit on the grass - always good fun to see others chase after hats, bags in the wind Try to avoid sitting at desk as even tho you have a sandwich in one hand and a book in the other - people still think you are working - some even say "oh, you're at lunch are you" and then continue to launch into work they want you to do. Must practice the "look" that Cathy does

I eat at my desk generally. We do have a staff room where we can eat and sometimes I eat there and maybe catch up with the lunchtime news on television.
I invariably bring in a home-made lunc. We can heat things up in our kitchen, which is a great advantage particularly in cold weather, so don't have to go out to eat.
After lunch, I go for a walk, pay bills, go shopping if I have time and need something.

I get half an hour for lunch which gives me just enough time to nip home to let the dog out - thats if he can be bothered to move off his bed

I usually take about half an hour and generally take something in, even if that means buying a sandwich before getting to work. We have a full sized kitchen/rest area, with microwave, fridge and toaster as well as coffee, tea and milk provided. I tend to eat at my desk and spend my time on the internet (Deskdemon!) although recently I've tended to eat and carry on my work (I know, it's not good) but there aren't enough hours in the day as we're joining a group as its subsidiary and in addition to the stuff we're doing for that, the day to day stuff still has to get done! It's going to get worse soon as we're all doing lots of training. I have about three days in total out of one week so far!

It varies. If I just want to be by myself and read, and boss is traveling, I shut my door and eat in my office. If he is in town, I generally go to the breakroom. There are days when meetings run over and I will run out and pick up his lunch, and usually pick something up for myself as well. sometimes on those days I eat at my desk while working. Try not ot do that though. Now that the weather is cooling off a bit, I plan to start walking.

I made it my New Year Resolution to always leave the office for half an hour at lunchtime. That little break makes all the difference and stops me from feeling resentful when the phone is ringing or people come into the office wanting things whilst I am eating my lunch. I usually go to the hospital dining room with a colleague and enjoy people watching and chatting. Sometimes I take my own lunch or buy a meal from the dining room but it is expensive.

When I first started this job I was in a building where I could eat at my desk which suited as we only get half an hour for lunch.
However I have now moved to another building and am not allowed to eat at my desk so if I my colleague is around we go to the canteen, if not, I may go out for some fresh air, take a drive and eat lunch in the car.
Not ideal but I would prefer to eat at my desk.

I have an hour lunch and for the most part either run out and get something or bring my lunch and eat in the breakroom, it has a TV on at lunch at there are always people to talk to.

Normally, I take a brisk walk during my 1/2 hour lunch and eat my actual lunch at my desk while working.
However, being 8 months pregnant--currently I drive to an empty parking lot and nap!

I'm fortunate to have free lunches at work and, as it's a college, we have a staff / student restaurant. Generally, I will eat my main meal of the day at work (took some getting used to, as I've always taken a packed sandwich lunch before), and then go for a cup of tea or coffee up in the Common Room. If I'm seriously busy, I will skip that.
When the restaurant is closed for a couple of weeks three times a year, we can get "take-out" from a local baguette shop (again, free to a certain £level) and I'll generally eat that at my desk, sometimes with a colleague, or on my own.
Sometimes I really miss bringing in the packed lunch when I would just shut my door (my own office) and just read a book. But hey! It's free and saves me money - I am not going to pass on it!

I'm bad. I bring my lunch, eat it at my desk, and keep working. "Lunch" tends to fall at the busiest time of day around here, but I have "downtime" at other times. I'll take an "extra" long break in the afternoon when necessary...

Laura, meant to ask....when are you due? I have two expecting cousins on either side of the family, one due October, the other due December. Hope you set your alarm and remember to go back to work in the afternoon

For a one time $100 fee we have access to a gym in our building. I try to work out 4 times a week at lunch. This keeps me out of the fast food places and away from my desk. Lately I've taken to the rowing machine - 30 minutes on it can wear me out - in a good way. (It is a well equipped gym with threadmills, elliptical, free weights as well as about 20 lifestyle weight machines.) A quick shower, back to my desk for a quick bite and then back to work. (PS I've more than recouped the $100 fee!)
