Intrigued how many work flexi-time in their workplace. If you do, interested to hear the core hours, flexi hours, any problems with the system etc etc. If you don't, would you prefer to have the option of flexi? Look forward to hearing from you. Flexi-time here means that you can start any time between 8am and 9.30am and leave when you've done your 7 and a half hours. I like being able to start at 9.30: it means I'm always ten minutes early instead of 20 minutes late and if I do come in early, I can go home early. Sometimes we flex tme further if we need to go to the dentist. It's nice not to have to take holiday for an hour and a half. Our flex time covers our core hours of operations (7 to 5) with start times anywhere between 7:00 am and 8:30. Employees have an option of taking lunch from 45 minutes to 1 1/2 hours. So your leaving time depends on how long you take lunch. My core hours are 7:00 to 3:45 with a 45 minute lunch.
I love flex time, it's wonderful if I'm running a bit late or need to take a longer lunch I can just adjust my time.
The policy does state that the supervisor/manager of each section is responsible to ensure adequate coverage during core hours. This way no one section is shut down at 3:45

We don't have that option where I work; but wish we did as we are on the East Coast and lots of our business is dealt with on the West coast. It would certainly save alot of heartache on both sides if we were to bend a bit for their schedule. Dunno if it will ever happen, but ya never can tell with the way our business has been changing lately. Chris68 Deskdemon Forum Board Staff

Our company has a flex-time policy. However, it is managed individually in each department. Our supervisor does not encourage flex-time, so we don't have it in our area. Maybe someday...

Our office timing is 9 to 5. First one hour (9 to 10) serves as flexi-time but 10 to 1 is core time. Taking advantage of flexi-time, if one comes at 10 he will leave at 6. But our policy also says that this should not be made a regular routine but an occasional advantage/facility for the staff to adjust their early morning urgent engagements. mnaeempk Naeem in Pakistan

Our core times are 10.00 - 12.00 and 2.00 - 4.00 although working just those hours obviously isn't encouraged!! We clock in and out every day so our time is recorded (for our benefit rather than to be checked). We can have between 30 mins and 2 hours for lunch providing we have enough hours built up on the clock and can take either whole or half days as flexi days.
In our Division the whole thing does work very well and is based a little on trust - come in late, go home late or come in early, go home early kind of thing, but I do know there are problems in other Divisions with people either taking advantage or Managers not letting people have the time.
I think it's a great system and it means I'm never late for work!!!

Flexi time here means starting at 8.00 am until 6.30 pm. Core hours are 10.00 am til 4.00 pm and you are allowed to be 21 hours in credit over a four week period.

We have flexi time here and I love it. The company feels otherwise as they want us to get rid of it. I can come in between 8.00 and 10.00 and go home anytime between 4.00 and 6.00. I tend to start at around 8.30 to 9.00 and am leaving between 5.30 and 6.00. Core time is 10.00 to 12.00 and 2 to 4.00. I tend to have less than an hour for lunch. so a flexi period is 4 weeks which means that I get 13 days flexi a year. I also get 26 days holiday and no wonder the company doesn't like it! still I believe the local council workers get 2 days felxi and the day after a bank holiday off and the queens birthday and Maundy Thursday. Nice Huh? Today is the second day of the new flexi month.
George.

I would love to have the option of flexi.
I work in a company that used to be MoD with flexi as a benefit therefore those that transferred to the Ltd company still have it. It is up to each department/division whether they encourage it or not.
However, we have some who are and some who aren't in our department. I started with the Ltd company and don't have it, although colleagues who started after me do (because the rest of their team do). Needless to say, this causes major friction within the department, particularly as the management are not keen to promote it.
