I hope someone can help me. My husband called me at work to let me know that my home computer was having difficulties. He tried to turn off the computer and turn it back on but what he got was a bunch of colorful lines. He tried rebootting and using the SAFE mode and this has not worked. I was wondering if anyone knows of a solution to this problem. When I get home tonight, I will try to find a solution to the problem.

I wonder if you have a HP computer/monitor. They are awful.
I second the post: it sounds like your monitor is going to choke or it's not hooked up properly. Shut the computer down for a while, let it cool off and then reboot.
How long have you had the PC?

It may be possible as well that he accidentally changed the display settings. This can be a bear to fix (because you can't see the screen to make the changes).
Alternatively, the monitor driver may have gotten corrupted. I would try reinstalling it as one possibility.
Let us know if it is getting any better or not.

Thanks for all of your help. We tried to turn off the computer and turn it back on. We tried doing the Safe Mode which only brings up a screen that looks like aliens and no other information on it and will be trying to make a boot disk tonight (although I am not sure what that will do).

Susan, if the monitor is broken (not the PC) then nothing you can do will be able to help you. I really suggest that you borrow a monitor from somewhere, plug it in and see if you can see anything. If you can't see anything then you have a PC problem, but if the driver settings were wrong you would normally see your BIOS screen before it went into Windows.
